How the heck does anyone spend 350k on cpanel per month? That gets into the budget range where one could develop something just as good and pay it off quickly.
DC provider happens to sell quite a few cPanel licenses.
I can’t tell if I am barking up the wrong tree or not but wanted to chime to make sure our pricing was clear. Customers with only 5 accounts previously paid $25, now they will pay $32. That is an increase but where are they going to find cPanel cheaper? If they want to go DirectAdmin, Plesk or some other control panel instead, we offer those options. We have tried to create 2 tiers that are attractive to as many users as possible while shouldering a good portion of the price increase for users who are most adversely impacted by cPanel’s new structure.
They'll get a price increase sure - but when I'm talking about the absolute cheapest for 500 accounts, it will be 57.34 USD - so if you have customers using up 500 accounts, and you charge them 32 USD, you will have a slight loss on the licenses.
From a customer perspective that's great you can offer that cheap pricing, but not really sure how great it is for you guys that you have to effectively lower your profit margins by quite a good amount of people go for cheap servers, just to be "cheaper than the competition".
If I were to be a hivelocity customer (Maybe some day if you get EPYC servers in Frankfurt), I honestly wouldn't mind paying more for a cPanel license
Even if I'd have to pay $100 for a license with 500 accounts on it, it's still for me worth the price
When did DirectAdmin get so pricey? I remember it being a $10 one off years ago or was I dreaming?
Well, 10 years ago they charged the same $29/m and $299.00 lifetime license.
We appreciate your willingness to pay more Zerpy. We would be happy to add an extra $25/mo premium to your cPanel license if you feel bad about us eating that cost
. In all seriousness, we are a pretty customer centric company and we spent weeks pouring over the usage data of our cPanel customers. We feel pretty comfortable with our loss exposure at the $32 and $65 price points. We sell servers. Hundreds, sometimes over one thousand in a month. Our hope is the 2-tier approach helps us do more of what we love, which is to sell lots and lots of servers.
Exactly why we moved to @Clouvider with their free DirectAdmin licence as I knew this was going to happen.
The more people that cancel their cPanel licence the bigger the dent and I hope it gives a clear signal to Oakley and their investors.
