I just gave up and even LET was horrendous - I really wonder if there are still people who "vanilla" browse any more?
It looks like there are still potential issues with the latest fixes (esp. if you use a master password).

Yes. Although I disagree with insidious tracking, lots of sites are reliant on ad revenue for their existence. If cryptocurrency micropayments became a norm for site usage, that'd be great. News sites tend to be the worst, and a prime example of how they're relying on ads, subscriptions or donations to continue providing a service.

new update 66.0.4 FF has fixed this!
I don't use an ad blocker. I just totally avoid sites with very obnoxious ads. A lot of sites are reliant on ad revenue, and for many of them I'd rather see ads instead of pay a monthly fee to access the site.
Are you saying you'd rather pay instead of see ads?
I didn't even realize how obnoxious the ads were.
Depends on the site in question and irrespective of whether you pay or not, there should be a balance in how the ads are presented/layered on the site.
Mozilla published a pretty good writeup about this issue: https://hacks.mozilla.org/2019/05/technical-details-on-the-recent-firefox-add-on-outage/
