The same tasks you use IPv4 for. There's just more address space, even if it is kind of a shoddy design- it's what we've got.
Out of curiousity, what makes you say "shoddy design"?
I don't do anything over ipv6.
You use it when you don't have a spare real (IPv4) address available (and it isn't worth the $1/month or so to pay for one).

It's inelegant.
If your ISP supports native IPv6, a lot of the sites you're browsing will be loading via IPv6, as most modern OSes prioritise IPv6 over IPv4. Around 50% of US connections to Facebook use IPv6, for example. https://code.fb.com/connectivity/how-ipv6-deployment-is-growing-in-u-s-and-other-countries/

Perhaps it's me but I equate shoddy with bad. From the little I know about it the design seems very functional and extensible so I wouldn't say it's a bad design ( though as I said my knowledge isn't in-depth ). That's why I asked.
