Can I assume Openvz VPSs will migrated to something else when openvz reachesEoL?

Assume Provider didn't go total deadpool before that.
Or it's more likely to stuck with openvz6?

No, you cannot assume such. Each and every provider will handle it differently.

Providers will have a few choices - some of which are terrible:

    • Encourage users to migrate to KVM or Xen
    • Migrate customers to OpenVZ 7
    • Stay on EOL vz6
    • Drop customers

Etc. Either way realistically you'll have one type of migration or another so it might be worth talking to your provider to see what your options are with them.

  • No, you can't assume.

But you'll get a pretty good idea of a provider's competency, come November, whichever path they go.

There are about 5 other threads about this already, the answers are about:
80% - no we will simply upgrade you to openVZ 7
20% - you will offered KVM instead.

    /thread.

I assume he just gave up with his pointless derailing attempts after he realized no one cared not even the mods so the only person he was impacting was himself.

I'm afraid I'm one of those people.

My stupid Canon multifunction printer can't scan to a network location unless that network location runs the Canon scangear software suite. Had an old Intel E2-1800 CPU mini-computer laying around and didn't want to waste resources on running full Windows 10, so I have Windows XP in a VM running the Canon scangear software and sharing the scan folder on the network.

As long the VM/OS is secured, have no access to internet and stay on lan, should not be many issues.

Unfortunately, we are in the same situation with a few of our business customers running legacy software. So, we isolate those PC/VM in VLAN with no internet access and hardening their system at the maximum. Some day, they will upgrade their software....... or not ;)

People were still getting security updates up to this month.
