US dedicated server, on 1gps port with at least 15TB Bandwith

Currently using a hetzner server for cost, but peering to Houston SUCKS. Using mostly as a General Use, multi User owncloud server, but do like to run a VM or two, remotely encoding etc. so something with low processing power I cant do. Currently running a i7 4 series with hetzner. Wouldnt mind a dual xeon though lol. I know of whole sale internet but in the past their network wasn't solid...

Can anyone offer me something nice without breaking the bank?

    What are you paying Hetzner?

  • 3 servers at 30.. only need 1 however but takes 3 to get the throughput needed

    Storage? Ram? CPU needs?

    Francisco

  • my hetzner is a i7 4 series with 32gb ram, one has 2 x 240 ssd, one has 2 x 2tb, one has 3 x 4tb

    i think 1tb or ssd would suffice prefer ssd for i/o.

    Fair but do you need that or is this purely static content?

    Francisco

  • no not static content, i do need the processing power, the hdd isnt as important, as cpu

    Around 40ms and 1Gbps shared port

  • sounds better than the hetzner speed, you have a test file ? how much would a dual cpu run

  • LyphiardLyphiard Member, Host Rep

    We could offer either of these servers in Dallas, TX:

    2x Xeon L5640, 48GB RAM, 1TB HDD => $55/month
    Xeon E3-1271v3, 32GB RAM, 250GB SSD => $70/month

    Servers come with /29 IPv4, /64 IPv6, 1 Gbps port (up to 2x 1Gbps LACP), and 15TB BW.

    1TB HDD: Free ($55/mo total)
    250GB SSD: +$5/mo ($60/mo total)
    250GB SSD + 1TB HDD: +$10/mo ($65/mo total)
    2x 250GB SSD: +$15/mo ($70/mo total)
    2x 250GB SSD + 1TB HDD: +$20/mo ($75/mo total)

    I can also throw in extra IP's for free/reduced cost if you have valid justification for it.

  • what are the setup cost for these.

    No setup fees for any of the option I listed above. However, if you want 2x 1Gbps LACP, it's +$10/mo + $10/setup. Minimum term for everything is only one month.

  • i don't think LACP is actually beneficial on 1gbps ports, on 10gbps maybe is there really a benefit aside from redundancy?

    i don't think LACP is actually beneficial on 1gbps ports

    Aside from redundancy - which often is reason enough: More throughput.

    As soon as your server might burst more than 1 Gbps, you can avoid bottlenecks (packet loss) with link aggregation. However, if you never reach 1 Gbps, there won't be any packet loss and thus utilizing aggregation won't be a benefit.

    You can also implement some kind of active-passive LACP to two different switches - or even active-active if your switching gear supports something like MC-LAG - which increases resiliance against switch failures and also enables you to reboot switches (e.g. firmware updates) without any server downtime.

    You can do pretty neat things - it's just a question of how many nines you are hunting. :wink:

    It can be beneficial depending on your usage scenario, ie. if you have multiple streams to different destination IP addresses.
