LEB scripts

edited February 2012 in Help

I know there are quite a bit of scripts out there dedicated to LEBs (@maxexcloo has some nice ones on his GitHub, @sleddog has an excellent blog coming along and a useful VPSinfo script, @NickM has his famous OpenStatus, @marrco and @dmmcintyre3 provided some useful backup code in another thread, etc...). Would everybody like to see a listing/directory of LEB focused scripts (of course not limited to LEBs)? On the flipside of the coin, would developers be willing to submit their projects to it?

I was originally thinking of starting some community driven projects but with a lot of the scripts I was able to think of being done already by others, maybe just a centralized location for people to find links to them all. What do you think?

  • I've submitted a few smaller ones, so I'd like this.

  • You should do scripts AND tutorials, like on http://vps-extra.com/ They don't have scripts though. Also maybe give a little walkthrough of the script and even have YouTube videos of their usage.

  • I like it, and I guess the LEB wiki was the ideal place for all that stuff...

  • LEB has a wiki?

  • With all due respect @KuJoe, and I agree with @yomero, a good part of these scripts should be listed (maybe approved too) on a wiki page on LEB, as they are clearly descendants of what @LEA did.
But anyway, a way to find them all would always be welcome :-)

The Wiki does sound nice. So that would be preferable over a single web page? Honestly I forget about the Wiki a lot (like other here have too it seems).

  • The wiki is a bad idea. A single page would be nice, if you ask me. In fact, I just bought lowendscripts.com, if you want to use it.

I started putting something together... http://www.lowendtalk.com/wiki/lowendapps

  • My offer for lowendscripts is still available as well.

  • I like the idea of the wiki, there everyone can provide input.

Maybe no one remembers it because there are few links to the wiki?

Don't forget things like http://fvps.us/t1434 that set up almost any LEB as a fully functional web server

  • @KuJoe a wiki page would be nice, but I still prefer the idea of a single hosted page...

For example, a simple page like Cached Commons (http://cachedcommons.org) would be perfect for something like this.

I was thinking of a table with the following info:
    Name | Description | Date Added | Link | # of clicks | Demo | Rating (0-5?)

  • @KuJoe said: I started putting something together... http://www.lowendtalk.com/wiki/lowendapps

    Nice :-)
Maybe we should indicate for which distribution they are available

Note to self: Should I try to add mine? :-)

Good idea although it would be up to the developer to include that on their website somewhere.

That's up to you. If you think it fits then add it. :)

  • I think you must add yours.

And the "minimal" one of maxexcloo (despite I use just a couple of useful commands there =P )

  • @KuJoe just reminding you to work on your new site layout or whatever. Get that logo made? It's like a must...

  • Make sure to check out the scripts over at http://www.tuxlite.com
PHP-FPM w/ Apache2 and/or Nginx for Ubuntu/Debian based distro's. Use them on all my servers. (*not my work)

  • i've had ideas in that direction also, to have a collection with links to the script mentioned.

@dclardy : is the offer still open? I have a unused buyvm where I can install wordpress and collect the information needed.

I was thinking of keeping it all hosted on LEB/LET.com though.

    +1

Very cool. Glad to see that page shaping up with collaboration. :)

  • The CachedCommons site can be forked on Github. I think that I might set up the page on the domain. It will just take some time.

I finally have this setup on the domain that I bought. For the time being, I just have the scripts that are on the wiki page.

    http://lowendscripts.com

Please send me any that you would like added here to drew at drewclardy.com. If you could send the download link and a link to an about page, that would be great. You can also just leave them here.

Thank you for that great link! The tuxlite script does EXACTLY what I was always looking for and I was not aware of it until now. I just started a Debian Reinstall on one of my VPS and will then check the script! :)

//Edit: Have now installed everything - That script is the BOMB! :-)

@Kujoe Nobody is asking for your script, help, or any input.
Mind your own ripping business, hope I don't read your thread anymore here or LEB.

Shockingly, you don't have to click the thread!

Also nobody is asking for any input by you, as well.

That was called for, very much so. </ crappy-sarcasm>
Would you like to elaborate on why you say that? The same could be said about you.

  • @LAKid not sure where that is coming from @KuJoe was just making a list of scripts. He was not changing them in anyway.

Sorry for bringing this backup. I just wanted to let those know that I had finally put something up on the domain I had. It looks just a little better than that wiki page. I will be adding more features to it soon.

Personally, I think it's bad for the Low End community in general to have all of this useful info in so many different places. LowEndBox, LowEndTalk, LowEndWiki, LowEndScripts, etc. Having a different domain for each thing just makes it harder to find what you're looking for.
