OVH (BHS) to Hetzner Peering
Anyone know how the connection between OVH (BHS Canada) to Hetzner is? I currently have an FS-72 server over at OVH that connects to another OVH server but Hetzner's SX291 server has a lot more storage for a much lower price. I was hoping I could connect the other OVH server over to a Hetzner SX291 without having any connection issues like really high latency or low bandwidth.
Any information would be helpful, thanks!

It's a bit tenuous since the Germans and French don't tend to be good friends.
Thanks a lot Hitler.
In two minutes from OVH and Hetzner to Hitler. You guys are special snowflakes...
Hetzner sometimes bans the connection from OVH. When doing a site for the Benchmark database, there was a problem, the server in RBX did not want to ping server in Hetzner. But the Hetzner server was calmly downloading files from OVH.
It's like Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon but a lot worse.
Thanks, Godwin.
Do you know if that was only to RBX or OVH in general?
OVH in general I think.
If it was only ICMP I can deal with that. I just need it to be able to transfer files between the two servers at a reasonable speed.
latency wise Hetzner to Ovh Bhs is just under 100ms at 99ms.
Speed slow at start after a number of secs stable around 20.0MB/s.
Run
iperf3 -s
on your server and PM me the IP, I can post a benchmark of transfer speed to/from BHS for you.IP sent. Thanks!
Whoops, nevermind.
Yeah, it's an MC-64 from OVH so it's capped at 250 Mbps like you said. Looks like I wouldn't have any problems with transfers between the two. I really appreciate the help.
Ha, I didn't read your message closely, sorry. I thought you have a Hetzner server already, and asked for an IP of that... As currently, we have just measured bandwidth of BHS<>BHS.
Haha, I was going to say that those were really great speeds. Guess I’ll see if anyone that has a Hetzner server can run the same ipef test. Thanks for trying though!
I am german and I like france.

My looking glass with Hetzner in Falkenstein.
Try if you like
This is my speed downloading a hetzner test file: Avg 1.01MB/s (max 5MB/s) (http://speed.hetzner.de/10GB.bin) after downloading it for some minutes it went up to 2,5 - 3MB/s avg.
It's really weird. I used mikho's looking glass and on my MC-64 the speeds were terrible (1.25 MB/s) but on my FS-72 I was getting around 28.6 MB/s. Not sure why two servers in the same datacenter are getting speeds that different from each other.
Did you test it at the same time?
Yeah, one right after another.
@Vova1234 - We do not block any connections from OVH. We have a direct peering with them. https://www.hetzner.de/unternehmen/rechenzentrum
@SprkFade - You can check the speed with our speedtest server "wget -O /dev/null http://speed.hetzner.de/1GB.bin" You can do a trace to our speed test server and check if OVH uses the direct peering. Send me a PM here on LET with your IP, and I'll ask my colleagues if they can trace the other direction. --Katie, Marketing
You guys should really get a public looking glass.
BHS has some interesting network issues that I'm trying to see if I can help them work out. I have 2 servers in BHS on different ip subnets. Using the 10GB hetzner test file one server is maxing out at ~7MB/sec in rescue mode and is a bit jumpy (goes between 6MB and 7MB). At the exact same time (they are running side by side) the other server is maxing out the connection at 11.2MB/sec and holding steady. Identical spec systems.
EDIT: I guess I should mention I'm using Kimsufi KS-3C. It's a 100Mbit link. That's the only reason I'm capping off at 11.2MB/sec on the one.
Hetzner to OVH France is great, to OVH BHS nowhere near as fast IME. I should test OVH France to BHS. It might be worthwhile to use France as an intermediate hop.
In my experience OVH SBG has the fastest connection to Hetzner FSN. i did not test OVH germany yet.
