    • Linux client - that's good.
    • Claims of being "more secure", while not providing provider-independent security in the form of client-side encryption, as far as I can determine. Bit of a make-believe "feature".
    • Expensive to upgrade beyond 5GB... 500GB for $15 is the most bang-for-buck upgrade they offer.
    • Little to no information on their architecture and how your data is kept safe.

I'm one of developers of Copy. We're glad so many of you have given us a try!

A few people have already commented about how we do auto-sync and how there are indeed ways to tell when your files are done syncing (though I agree we can do better - and will!). We also wanted to clarify for everyone that, contrary to the comparison chart above, we take privacy and security very seriously.

All communication with the cloud is SSL-encrypted, and the data we store is further encrypted with AES 256. In fact, every 1MB portion of a file we store is encrypted with its own key.

  • @jarland nice one

Company feature is interesting. Storage for $99/year is more than twice that of Dropbox. Still not cheap but if convenience ends up pleasing me, I'll consider it. Also looking for a solution for the faculty at the school so another hat in the ring.

Owned by Barracuda Networks, I'm sure this will be good stuff.

It also looks like you might get +2G for signing in via twitter (from omgubuntu article)

I got 10gb total, with twitter linked. I signed up via mobile interface though and it never mentioned anywhere how much space I was getting for anything.

That seems kind of pointless if the encryption/decryption happens serverside.

Also my referral link if anyone wants to give me a 5gb boost. Right at 15gb (1 referral) would put me where I'd like to be.

@dedicados Yeah but there's value to a trusted company handling the software end. That's what you really pay for. Time is money and a distributed LEB storage would be cheaper and probably more redundant but its just another thing to audit and troubleshoot every month.

And, who has the decryption keys, they, or you?

I was with them until this point. "Hey, if normal encryption is good, we'll SUPER DUPER encrypt it."

And as @Raymii pointed out, key management is probably the weakness.

(removed some erroneous math on my point...but still, it's a lot of keys and I'm skeptical)

@raindog308 I will gladly hand over any keys I can access to anyone who would like to see 6GB of cat photos.

6GB of cat photos? I think reddit might be a little interested in those keys.

@yomero Works fine for Dropbox. I'd expect barracuda to do fine. I'll gladly pay if they do well.
