any news on Let'sEncrypt free wildcard SSL certs? anyone beta testing?

Is this still on track for January? Because I really can't wait, even if it's not perfect it should drive down the cost elsewhere:

https://letsencrypt.org/2017/07/06/wildcard-certificates-coming-jan-2018.html

(and yes we know about cloudflare's solution, it's rather flawed but a noble free offer)

Someone has to be beta testing LE's wildcards if it really is going to happen in January, any insight?

Cert mafia has to forced to go away now that chrome and firefox are going to show nasty warnings to users and make them panic (or more likely just end up "teaching" them to ignore warnings)

  • They said it wouldn't be available until Q1/2018. Being just what is involved with a wildcard cert, I don't believe that too many external folks will be allowed to beta until they figure how to lock it down.
