Arch Linux replaces MySQL with MariaDB by default
Just got this message from the arch announce mailing list:

# mysql_upgrade -p
`percona-server` is another MySQL fork available in [community]. It should be
closer to Oracle MySQL Enterprise, but is missing the new features included in
MariaDB.
Together with `mysql 5.5.30-7` in [extra], all packages depending on it have
been rebuilt against their MariaDB counterparts. Other package maintainers
should move their dependencies to the MariaDB packages.

Does anybody successfully run MariaDB as a MySQL replacement? I do have experience with the Percona MySQL builds, but not with MariaDB...

Dang it, like I said, MariaDB is getting tons of love lately
it is much more refined and better supported as of late.
@Raymii, it usually goes smoothly if you don't use the listed incompatible options

With the Debian versions MariaDB 5.5 uses more memory than MySql & Percona, to be used with caution on a low end box.
I wonder about performance improvements over plain mysql
@djvdorp One of my databases i migrated went from 800qps on mysql to 900qps on mariadb with a lot fewer slow queries. Doesn't mean much i know but there's definitely improvements.

been using MariaDB mysql as default out of the box installs for Centmin Mod http://centminmod.com/ for over 21 months now http://centminmod.com/mysql.html. 1000s of Centmin Mod users are using MariaDB without problems - some vBulletin clients even using it for clustered multi-server setups.
MariaDB 5.2.x branch while i am testing MariaDB 5.5/10.x and Oracle MySQL 5.6.x
Outside of Centmin Mod, I've been using MariaDB for 2+ yrs now without problems for standalone and WHM/Cpanel server setups

I always thought it was the lazy distro. The "here you do it" installer that makes the user do every insignificant thing... :P
I am hating to see the name Oracle in LEMP stack setup. Does MariaDB installation show the name "Oracle" by any chance?

MariaDB has NEVER been a good thing for me... ever.
MySQL or Percona seems to work just fine.
