I use this https://github.com/hwdsl2/setup-ipsec-vpn/
+1. easy and fast to install

openvpn, but(t) if you have an openvz container, you're gonna have a bad time.
I installed https://github.com/Angristan/OpenVPN-install on OpenVZ as suggested by @Dumbledore and it is working just fine.
you can also try https://github.com/drewsymo/VPN
works fine.
Can highly recommend https://github.com/trailofbits/algo an IPSEC VPN IKEv2 works awesome with iOS devices.
Do you guys have something for IPSec / L2TP/IPSec that also works on OpenVZ beside SoftEther?
Doesn't work on OpenVZ.
Well, it works fine because you've done it right, however most smaller OpenVZ providers don't care about enabling tun/tap kernel modules.
I assume that would be common sense so didn't think you would be referring to that. :!
OpenVPN does work just fine on OpenVZ and I do it. But yes, there are some providers that don't offer tun/tap. That's something to check before choosing a low end VPS provider if it's for VPN.
I don't know how true that is, but there are certainly plenty of LET providers that either enable tap/tun by default or will do it on request.
I literally never stumbled upon a provider that doesn't offer tun/tap. Even $2 / year @cam246 offer tun/tap. How is That "having a hard time" ? Even if you forget to turn it on the script will specifically ask you to turn it on
Nope
Another L2TP/IPSec script: https://github.com/sockeye44/instavpn
Tried it on OpenVZ and somehow clients cannot even connect to the server. Seems darn hard to find a working installer for that VPN type on OpenVZ. So back to SoftEther for me.
Do you really need and "installer"? I just edited the client.conf and server.conf files.
I use OpenVPN and L2TP/IPSEC
I had an old L2TP/IPSEC installer but decided to try out https://github.com/hwdsl2/setup-ipsec-vpn/ instead and works nicely. Had to modify it to support Centmin Mod LEMP stack setup + CSF Firewall + CentOS and works fine. Modded vpnsetup_centos.sh

Hey eva2000,
I check out your cool Centmin Mod project and you seem to be a great programmer with a lot of knowledge.
Do you by any chance have a working script for OpenVZ that creates a L2TP/IPSec as easy as the one that you linked?
I tried the one but it says OpenVZ not supported and I tried another one that didn't work either. At the moment I use SoftEther for L2TP/IPSec in local bridge mode for better speed. It's alright as I'm getting 110 Mbit/s DOWN and 10 Mbit/s UP of my 400 Mbit/s DOWN and 10 Mbit/s UP. However it feels like an overkill as I only need L2TP IPSEC.
Ah folks already mentioned OpenVZ needs tun/tap kernel modules which some vps providers enable or optionally allow enabling. For hwdsl2's script just matter of removing the OpenVZ check https://github.com/hwdsl2/setup-ipsec-vpn/blob/master/vpnsetup_centos.sh#L53-L57 if your OpenVZ has the tun/tap support.
But I just use non-OpenVZ for VPNs anyway, KVM VPS are cheap these days i.e. $5/m 1GB Linode KVM VPS
I have 5x $25/yr Hostus.us 2GB 50GB OpenVZ VPS all have tun/tap - screenshots at https://community.centminmod.com/threads/hostus-us-holiday-deals-2gb-openvz-vps-25-yr.9874/#post-42260. So yeah they exist
My provider has TUN/TAP and PPP support. I have these even enabled already for SoftEther. So you say that if I remove the OpenVZ check I can possibly run the script to setup the VPN?
That'd be awesome.
What exactly exists ?

OpenVZ VPS with TUN/TAP
Doing a quick test on one of my HostUS.US OpenVZ right now with modified script which checks if TUN/TAP is supported on OpenVZ
I have tried these scripts and OpenVPN client on Windows. However, it continuously disconnects and reconnects. How can I diagnose this error?
Great. Please post a update and let us know if it works
Not working 100% on OpenVZ with the modifications so something to troubleshoot in my spare time so leave it as is as all my VPNs are on KVM VPSes. My time is more valuable that money saved on OpenVZ vs KVM
