Average is $20 per amp, I've seen it though down to $10-$15 before

$25 / AMP here, but CoreSite SJC has restrictions on maximum power per rack.

LoL, in Spain 1A = 35-40€ (Cheap price, you can found some ES housing provider selling 1A=60-70€, that is around $100 USD)

    Obviously, monthly prices...

    :(

What's an amp of power? :P

    The calculation is different...
    1 AMP at 120 V is 120 Watt at 230 V is 230 Watt...
So, you cant really compare accurately 1 amp in us and 1 amp in spain. Spain one is actually double power and in EU power is usually measured in Watt directly.

At 120 volts? 120 Watts. At 240 volts? 240 watts.

    Watts = Amps x Volts @perennate.

Also metric and imperial amps, volts and watts are all different!

In Australia everything being upside down also requires cables to be configured differently. This increases the cost of power as well.

    Explains your signature.

@mnpeep Thanks, yes, in Spain the default voltage is 230V ;)

  • At OpusInteractive in Portland, OR it's like... $15 per amp of A power and $30 per amp of A+B power.

Typically across all our facilities $15-$22/A @ 120v

Our least-expensive power is in Phoenix and Atlanta at $15/A

Keep in mind these are retail costs, actual utility cost is itself lower. However, we as providers take a loss in the inefficiencies of things such as UPS, Step-Down transformers, etc that slightly inflate the cost per delivered amp. Also, you have to account for the cooling cost to cool that A of power you just converted into heat in your datacenter. Then on top of that you need to make a profit to cover maint and upkeep of the equipment, capital recovery for the initial investment, etc.

Yeah, but in Europe, 1A is twice the power.

    Atlanta - $15/amp
    Las Vegas - $12.50/amp

1A in Iceland is around 9,6USD / A (Remember, 220V! So around 5$ for an "US" amp)... that's as cheap as it gets worldwide, next probably is Quebec with something like 8$ / A (110V).

US... not going to get cheaper than 10$ / A unless you really have your DC on the Canadian grid near the border.

  • RyanDRyanD Member

@William are you quoting utility pricing or datacenter delivered power.

Sure, in Atlanta you can have utility costs as low as $6-7/A @ 120v from a utility co-op for straight power.

DC, the 10$ in Iceland even includes Generators, Gas and UPS backup - it's the price you pay for in a rack and each A is double provisioned (A+B) as well.
