Searching for the open source linux based application which send notification through email on downtime or when if there is no response from ports (http/smtp/etc)

    Test them to see what works for you. I don't use that. I use monit and munin.

    What are you trying to monitor? Just ICMP/TCP? If you don't need something that can be used across different servers PHPServerMonitor is simple and just works. I use it for some stuff since it has Pushover support.
