How can I monitor backups of several vps
Hi,
So, I'm backing up some small vps (maybe a dozen). They all are under a single backup server with different sftp accounts. If I forget the main server side (the server which is being backed up to send notifications) is there a way I can get notified if there's no file change in a directory from last 7 days or something?

Writing a cron script to check modification dates or writing a service that watches the files via inotify are the two solutions that come to mind.

Zabbix could do this for you, also you can monitor all your VM's, zabbix.com
This is great! Why haven't I heard of this before?...
There can be a lot of reasons for that...
There's a similar site called Dead Mans's Switch. I can't find a link. I wrote a rough a dirty PHP script to do the same thing before I found sites that do the same.
These work when your cron exits with code 0 when it succeeds and >0 if it doesn't. You need to make sure your crons do that.
