Observium
Did you install observium yet?
What I'm looking for is not a complete monitoring solution. Rather, a simply tiny agent that reports on SNMP so I can connect programmatically and see the status.
Im not sure what you mean, reports on snmp.
What I'm trying to achieve is installing a tiny software on the servers I want to get live usage statistics and somehow retrieve that data from that software.
Observium uses the SNMP service on your container/server to monitor that server's operations.
Sounds like its what you're looking for.
Our new parse check can watch those things without SNMP and provide email/SMS/voice alerts for your configured low and high thresholds using common system reporting scripts like linfo and npsystats.

I think I've found what I was looking for: http://www.webnms.com/linux-monitor/index.html
It's tiny and even has a tiny webserver to display statistics, also works with SNMP.

Thanks @NodePing, you are doing a very good job. I've been using your service for almost a year now.
@serverian - Thanks! We're doing our best to make the monitoring service we always wish we had.
I'm however, open to suggestions. Open-source preferred.
