Yet another positive BuyShared / BuyVM post
So I was quick to post a negative thread about BuyShared, but I feel as if web hosts don't get enough positive threads about them. As customers we're quick to complain, slow to compliment. I hope this goes a bit towards helping push some positivity in this negative industry.
Earlier this morning I had statuscake ding me an email as my Luxembourg VPS had knocked offline for a bit, and then popped back up again. I pinged a ticket to see what was up. Downtime can happen at any time, and for a brief period I assume its nothing bad, just wanted to know what it was so when this service that is on it becomes mission critical I can plan for future issues (its always something you forget to think about that bites you in the ass)
The responses I got from BuyVM (Francisco) were great. They explained the issue (BGP flapping - it happens) and what they're doing to prevent it going forward (more bandwidth from a different carrier). I haven't actually had this level of detail from a VPS host in the past, although my experience of VPS hosting support is fairly limited.
We then discussed how I can plan around this for the future and how their anycast set up is done so I know what will and what won't cause it to fail over to a different DC. All in all very happy, even though this comes off the back of the service being offline for 15 minutes.
Keep up the great work @francisco and team. And for anyone looking for cheap VPS, I can recommend BuyVM with no hesitation. The only thing I'd recommend is a bit more training for Val though on how to deal with people a bit better.
Edit: clarified I mean Val's people skills and not technical skills!
Comments
Val is actually well trained for what is meant to be !
@Francisco is a very reasonable and up-front guy. Downtime does happen to any provider, even HA enabled.
Totally worth it.
Ah technically I don't doubt that - I was referring more to people skills though. I'll update the post as I really wasn't clear about that, my apologies!
Val is a no drama, no question type. You want a lengthy conversation pray you get the other guys.
It was more he's blunt and it can sometimes come across as moody. Especially when its the first reply to a ticket with a couple of questions in and he only answers the last one.
Not the end of the world, but a bit of feedback I have is all
kuddos to @Fransisco !
Sorry about that! As I said I'm not sure which end it was but I'm inclined to put it more on root. Our own internal bgp to the same router (autonull, etc) had no issues.
The other port is ready to go though so I'll be doing that very soon.
Francisco
Don't worry about it - as I mentioned, shit happens and if we rely on the service for mission critical things we should plan for shit to happen.
The handling of it and ticket responses were great and keep me happy as a customer. As I posted a negative post previously I felt I need to post a positive one as overall Frantech (BuyVM/BuyShared) does provide a great service and great value for money :-)
What's wrong with Val?
The times I've dealt with him were great. Straight to the point, got it resolved quickly. I had someone from a different provider ask me why I wanted to use NFS... took 3 days to get that setup, whereas Val got that enabled immediately as I requested and allowed me to set it up very quick.
He's straight to the point and I guess some people feel a bit off with that.
I've been handling tickets full time as well, not just escalation ones, so thats helped the back/forth on some stuff we had prior.
Francisco
As mentioned above, he can come across as moody and as if he doesn't want to be helpful in the way he responds to tickets. That's all
I'll look through your interactions with him and see where there's ways to improve.
Thanks for the feedback either way
Have a great easter.
Francisco
Sure it was Val and not Fran?
I don't know why you've made a career of shitting on Francisco, but I find it amusing.
Do you have to have an opinion on every post, are you lonely or something, that guy in the group who won't go away but everyone wants him to.
Is he?
I just assumed it was the brit in him :P
Francisco
I blame Brexit..
Yes. Also Yes.
Hey! We're not all that bad!
I'll find an example of a happy Brit one day...
Where are you from?
The Anglo-American concept of politeness - and really we're talking about diction/tone here as we are just typing tickets to each other - is radically different than much of the rest of the world. In fact, some of the extraneous B.S. that Americans say (and expect) is regarded as inauthentic or even rude in other cultures.
Valentina R. is completely dedicated to helping you, such a delicate young L1 tech struggling with such a hard language, only wishing she had a Man to practice English with. . . don't be a dick.

Yes, really appreciate their effort in restoring the server in short span and letting me know the exact reason and truth about it. My trust on them has now increased.. Thanks @Francisco
I don't like BuyShared. It's fast, reliable, has dedicated IP, and cheap. Plus, the owner has a top naked picture on the internet.
Wait, don't?
Francisco
Yes, don't. Because I was not able to eat for a few weeks after seeing this picture
Francisco
It's breakfast time, no NSFW please.
That porn undercovered! With two chicks on bed behind.. are you 18+?
That's your own problem, I purchased a tub of vaseline when I saw it.
