Low Webpage Speed Impact Facebook Like Box?

I tried several Facebook like boxes on the homepage of my websites as a way of collecting likes and improving social media presence. All the ones that I have found seem to have a horrendous affect on page speed. My best WP sites load in around 350ms. With a simple FB like box I am up to almost 2 seconds using tools.pingdom.com. Does anyone know of an FB like solution that has negligible affect on page speed? (I am wondering if my experience is due to FB itself or poor coding of the FB like solutions I have tried so far.)

Every one probably pulls a separate bit of content which makes your page require for the render. Find someone who is familiar with the API who can rewrite it to (possibly) arbitrate through your list and hold a local cache which is rebuilt for every article.
I won't touch WP with a ten foot poll.
