Point me towards an idiot-proof, mostly-automated OpenVPN server install script, please?
I don't have very extensive experience with Linux, but I've always been able to follow installations guides and configure things just fine. Except for when it comes to installing OpenVPN...
I have tried no fewer than a dozen different guides and 6+ automated scripts (including the LEB forks) and still can't seem to install an OpenVPN server (for private use) on my VPS. Over the years, I've tried installing it on CentOS5, CentOS6, and now, Debian6. No dice on any. I know it should be really simple, but this is driving me crazy. Help, please? I've just now reinstalled Debian on my latest VPS for the 5th time since buying it just a few hours ago...

OpenVZ or not, I believe the iptables commands are a little different. Can't really remember if that's correct or not.
I always found that the script that regolithmedia posted in the Tutorial section of LET was pretty easy to follow.
So, what's your problem?

It does not get much simpler?
It's great, really easy to install and stuff but I prefer the normal OpenVPN since you can't have more than one VPN config on the client at a time, which granted, most people don't do.

That was a total waste of your time. Openvpn-AS has a good site with easy to follow instructions with option details you can read that explain each step.
Not sure why you felt the need to reinvent the wheel with that post.
Writing that wasn't a waste of time, posting it here maybe. It's a good post to point clients to when they want to install a VPN and ask you.
Does Openvpn-AS work on Ubuntu versions newer than 10? The latest download that I see is for Ubuntuu 10.
The reason I avoided OpenVPN AS was limit of 2 concurrent connections. That could be reached by my own use (phone and laptop), so family members wouldn't be able to use it, too.
Just use the same account to connect all your devices?
Well, the OP asked for a very simple one. There are many people which need a very detailed howto with pictures.
My understanding was that the concurrent connection limit is the actual number of simultaneous logins, not the number of users. Is that incorrect?

@user123 The limitation is concurrent users. If a user account allows multiple connections, then you can connect multiple times with the same user account .

Installed OpenVPN AS and created a user and was trying to start the server, but get the common error "iptables service not started because of error (SVC_RUN_EXCEPT)"
TUN/TAP are already enabled and the VPS host supports VPNs.

I need the VPS for other things, too, but using it as a VPN would be useful, too.

It looks like the iptables error message was a server-side issue. I opened a support ticket and linked them to the OpenVPN page about configuring the host node for AS. After two iterations of changes, it's (OpenVPN AS) working now! Thanks for the help, everyone
