Who.is
CLI
+1 for Domain Tools
whois.sc
DT gets my vote.
Web based that I'm fairly certain can be trusted: easyWhois.com
And by trusted, I mean to not be eavesdropping on your searches for "front running" purposes. (Not just because they have a big badge saying so, but because easyDNS seems like decent people if you read some of their blog articles, etc.)
With Linux/BSD, you can use command line whois.
And here's a Windows command line tool from SysInternals:
SysInternals (suite)
SysInternals (whois only)
The suite also contains a lot of other great stuff.
Who.is is pretty awesome. Their integrated DNS records tool is handy, too.
Coming soon whoiseee.com ??
whois.sc and who.is
robtex.com
no one?
whois.webhosting.info
same with @jacob, who.is (name.com project)
tinywhois.com
whois.domaintools.com
mostly who.is
sometimes domaintools.com
Tried command line. >_<

Used to use this until I switched to Chrome, which has a handy extension for the purpose.
I use command line whois for routine lookups. For whois history or any more detailed work Domaintools works well.
@DStrout thanks for the pointer to the extension... will need to check that out.
Hi i usually do whois search at sites like Whoisxy.com here they display some necessary details about any particular website or ip like owner name ,address, phone number and so on ...
