lightest free control panel with db & php?
hey there, can anyone suggest me a lightweight and free control panel just to manage a single site which can run on 128mb/256mb ram?
I was looking into webmin but to make it light weight you need to do lots of technical commands and most tutorials are outdated (2-3 years old)
all i want to do is to run "boxbilling" with static html5 site, or maybe wordpress if the vps can run it. i will be using ramnode.
thanks in advance for your help and support.

Centminmod. It's not exactly a web panel but, in command line, will do the job you want.
http://centminmod.com/
Just be sure to check min/recommended disk requirements https://centminmod.com/install.html might be more than typical 256MB VPS unless you're using centos 6 32bit. If you can stretch to 512MB VPS centso 6 64bit.
also 123.09beta01 is the one to check out it's going stable as soon as I finish writing up the updated documentation/faq for official site etc https://centminmod.com/changelog.html
I don't understand what a control panel is supposed to do in this case--boxbilling is just some php scripts.
VestaCP is free and seems lightweight though I've never run it on the host side.
you may also try easyengine.
the best way is running it without any control panel. If you have more than 256 MB Ram go with VestaCP
As you are only hosting a single site, I'd recommend that you get rid of any control panel; do a clean install of webserver/MySQL/PHP and optimize a little bit to satisfy a small-RAM VPS. There are plenty of tutorials about this and it should be no more difficult than installing a control panel.
Be careful if you use vestacp on centos as the included custom Apache rpm build used by vestacp (they are not using centos default repo provided apache rpms) maybe insecure as it's missing 30+ months of security and bug fix updates https://community.centminmod.com/threads/vestacp-ouch-no-http-2-and-outdated-apache.10114/
Not sure about apache in vestacp ubuntu/debian.
I user centminmod personally for our websites, its not a pretty gui however its just as simple to run from command line, @eva2000 is always happy to reply to help threads aswell on there forum and honestly is just a generally nice person.
Starung using it a while back and never looked back
For such limited resources I would go without any control panel especially if you will be hosting one website. If you want to simplify setting up process go with Centminmod.
cheers guys
@piohost great to hear ^_^
I also added 2 official guides for setting up Centmin Mod Nginx HTTP/2 based HTTPS with free letsencrypt ssl certificates https://community.centminmod.com/threads/added-guide-for-new-centmin-mod-nginx-https-vhost-with-letsencrypt-ssl.10158/
so it's time to search and update the things thank you for the update
Centminmod all the way !
On the other hand, webmin (virtualmin) can run fine in a 128MB vps without major tweaks and their "new" (there's been a while but now it is their default) authentic theme, makes it look preety awsome and is much more friendly to n00bies than the previous one.
If you do not want to use any email, then, install webmin without clamav/spamassassign (it will ask you to the initial config) and go.
The lot of technical commands are for more complex installations. You just want to host a couple of php sites, so, it will work out of the box. Install it with debian minimal and your vps will not consume more than 60-70MB in idle.
thanks man, will give it a try
so i have decided to try out centmin mod
and Nginx PHP FastCGI Server Configuration - with Adminer from turn key linux.
I just require accessible web gui to see server status and be able to configure things easily. and yes i do need mail server
thank you all for your suggestion
/bin/{d}ash
@fahim5001,
if low resource optimization is a priority, I'd suggest embracing Debian.
A Debian 8 min install + VestaCP Advanced Install setting with bare minimum pkgs is great!
+1 for https://easyengine.io/
I've fallen in love with it.
Sir Try This Cent Os Panel - http://centos-webpanel.com
try vestacp without unnecessary stuffs :
then....
bash vst-install.sh --nginx yes --apache yes --phpfpm no --vsftpd yes --proftpd no --exim no --dovecot no --spamassassin no --clamav no --named no--iptables yes --fail2ban yes --mysql yes --postgresql no --remi no --quota no
thanks to @mehargags
All of the above recommendations are great things, IMO, but if you want a control panel that is truly lightweight, I have not witnessed any of them beat Kloxo-MR. I ran it on a 128MB RamNode OpenVZ for somewhere around 3 years without ever having a single issue. I'm no Kloxo fan, but that fork packs a lot of punch for how low resource it can be.
:‑)
I recommend you a good look at OpenLitespeed, free, Open Source and "half panel". Im using IT from
2y3y (I'm getting old if I start to forget these things .. lol)(seems). You need to fine tune a lot of things but when you reach good knowledge you can have good performances. Speaking about ram usage is very low after the install and for me it consume less than CentMinMod if well tuned (im not using a lot CentMinMod, @eva2000 or CentMinMods docs have better answers ofc). Click here for minimal requirements. But with 256mb Ram it will be very hard to compile... unless you have kvm.@eva2000 can u hook me up with a tutorial for setting up the server? i am using ramnode 256mb ram kvm, willing to use debain 7.3 x86
Yes openlitespeed is excellent, especially their lsapi php handler - fyi, Centmin Mod has plans for litespeed + openlitespeed integration so eventually you can run Centmin Mod web sites on nginx and/or litespeed/openlitespeed with one nginx/litespeed vhost generator for it all. So keep an eye on the news
Centmin Mod only works on CentOS 6 and 7 unfortuantely. See FAQ item 12 at http://centminmod.com/faq.html. There maybe future plans to work on Fedora and Cloudlinux support though
tip: check the Centmin Mod 123.09beta01 branch install https://centminmod.com/changelog.html as it's going stable soon. Only waiting on me to do the full write up of updated centminmod.com site documentation/faq and guides for the new features - which there is alot !
123.09beta01 install is easy as loading up appropriately spec'd CentOS 6 or 7 vps and running curl installer - see min/recommended memory/disk space requirements at https://centminmod.com/install.html
yum -y update; curl -O https://centminmod.com/betainstaller.sh && chmod 0700 betainstaller.sh && bash betainstaller.sh
My most recent install adventures as the Centmin Mod curl installer in 123.09beta01 can server as a benchmark of sorts for new web host vpses i get https://community.centminmod.com/threads/hostus-us-holiday-deals-2gb-openvz-vps-25-yr.9874/
VestaCP is nice, many customers use it, the problem are the resources because it needs at least 768mhz cpu + 512MB ram and 20 Gbps disk space:
https://forum.vestacp.com/viewtopic.php?t=3912
As said by skid @ Vesta CP team.
Try Kloxo-MR! Installed with few commands only, in minutes, with low resource ! Instructions HERE
Try the Kloxo-MR 7. version!
Just be careful https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/2042001/#Comment_2042001
Oh, didn't knew about this one, thanks for pointing out !
here is a little update!
Tried mostly all the suggestions,
openlitespeed - great for hosting static sites, but after installing db+php on debain 7.3 x86, had around 20mb ram left mostly, and went down to 6mb in some occasions. hard to find tutorials and config stuff for a beginner like me.
centos-webpanel - cant even try to install on the server as it requires much more resource to run.
vestaCP - with the mysql and php, its a ram lecher for something this small but will work great on something with 512mb ram,
easyengine - really really great for something such small! specially wordpress instance.
turnkey linux nginx
will try today: lamp stack on ubuntu, Kloxo-MR, CentMinMod
ty all for the great suggestions
day4
fak all this shit
I am getting direct admin, which seems to be the cheapest one with all the features preinstalled.
any other suggestions?
