What is better for gaming server?

Hello,

I would like to ask whether it is possible for this servers run game server Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. What is better - VPS or "dedicated cpu"? What would you recommend?

  • Source Servers are single threaded. The exception is with networking. If you gave a core that has 2 threads, then one will be used for the main engine, while the 2nd thread will be used for networking. As long as the server has a good single thread CPU speed then you should be good. Its the same case with minecraft. So if you look around for suggested minecraft CPUS then you will find quite a few good examples for it. Normally however is if you are using a vanilla server, then you should be able to get a way with at least a 3.2 to 3.4 GHZ cpu provided other things do not slow it down.

  • Dedicated server is best because the resources are actually just for you.

    Don't forget to consider the latency.. in Counter Strike latency is very important. Check where are your majority of users located and then search for a server with good connectivity in that location / country.

    Also are we talking about just one CS server? If yes, a VPS with good resources (at least 2 cores, 2 gb ram and don't use sata for hdd) should provide good performance for a 32 slots server.
