@gubbyte Then use an uppercase B damnit!
I had a Netgear router and it ran smoothly with no reboots or anything for a good seven years. I have been running a Linksys router ever since the Netgear died and it has been working well for four years now. I have had many friends who have gone through several Linksys routers within just a couple of years. So I guess if you get a good Linksys then you are set, the problem is that the majority of them aren't built well.
AVM (Fritz!box) does make the best DSL routers. The web interface has extensive diagnostic data, with graphic spectrum analyzer and live performance counters. New firmwares are released even after the end-of-sale of the router (sometimes they even add functions); some models have Dect and SIP capabilities. They are expensive but quality is definitely there.
A Linksys router, one year old, all of a sudden began having connectivity issues two years ago. Countless factory restores later, I practically tossed the thing out the window. Grabbed a Netgear and the things been working without me touching it since the day I installed it.
Sort of is.
Belkin is going to be buying the Linksys brand soon.
I have my linksys GL version 1.1 and worked flawlessly with DD-WRT for like 5 years and one with tomato (for better IPv6) but sadly has been relegated due to 54 max speed. I also had a couple of ASUS and my current one RT-N10U does great and has the same range as my old linksys. It even keeps steady at 150 where the old one was already dropping speed and, best of all, has standard antena, I suppose I can improve on the 8 db one I put on it. Has out-of-the-box IPv6 too and the USB port surely helps for ppl which need to share some drive.
It is really cheap too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-RT-N10U-802-11N-150Mbps-Wireless-N-Router-Printer-Server-Repeater-/110765637901
I have a black, more classy version, tho.
I am rocking a D-link DIR-615 running OpenWRT. This thing is doing IPv4 and IPv6 which is great
Linux box + bridged modem FTW.
Love my Asus RT-N66U and N15U
