If you will plan a storage box which platform you will use?

I am looking for solution that support FTP, SFTP, SCP, NFS, CIFS, and RSYNC

waiting for your reviews

  • Err...Linux???

And then apt-get install or yum install?

  • Get a vps with dos novel netware . It supports ftp, sftp, scp, cifs and rsync!!

Seriously though, this forum has lots of resources to start learning stuff.
Right now your question is too generic and theoretical. Get a grasp on what you need and see what is available. It is time consuming but that's how most of us started with this "hobby".

These are nicely all technologies that allow compression and deduplication.

  • I would recommend FreeNAS as OS because it's simply designed to provide all of the protocols you want.
Additionally it uses zfs as the underlying filesystem, which provides transparent compression, the possibility to activate deduplication and measurements against bitrott.

Hetzner Storage Boxes support most of the protocols that you listed.
