IPTables Problem on Cent OS

regsregs Member
edited December 2011 in Help

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday no matter what it was.

I am having an issue on Cent OS 5, I opened up a ticket with alvotech but I figured I would ask you guys if you've encountered this.

My problem is with IP Tables on an alvotech vps, (768mb ram) I login as root and run the command:
iptables -N TOR_BLOCK
iptables v1.3.5: can't initialize iptables table `filter': Permission denied (you must be root)

I have even tried running as another user and sudo'ing, no luck.

Any idea? Thanks

  • AFAIK alvotech uses linux-vserver and you can't use iptables directly with linux-vserver. THere should be some firewall rules you can set from their control panel though.

  • ah, well that explains it haha, thanks for the quick reply!
