200-250GB Storage with some Panel? Or How to do with VPS?

After graduating from Hostgator, I now host my own sites on VPSs found on LEB, ChicagoVPS and BuyVM. For backup, I've been using backup-spot.com, but I am running out of space. Rather than upgrade I wanted to get storage elsewhere. I see offers here for backup VPSs. Do they typically come with a panel? Backup-spot installs cPanel, and you can ftp all your Virtualmin backups. If the backup VPS does not come with a panel, I am willing to try one if someone would point me in the right direction to convert one into a ftp backup server.

BuyVM backup plans, or I offer a cheap cloud storage at http://centralvps.com/cloud_storage.html
Most that I've seen don't. It's just a VPS with a large hard drive allocation; you still have to install everything yourself.
Where are you based? OVH servers can make great backup nodes.
@curtisg, I wanted to buy a Buyvm storage plan, but they don't have any available, all sold out. I'll check yours out.
We don't offer a panel with ours, but you are welcome to install FTP like you mentioned.

@gubbyte - What do you recommend for software if all you are running is backup storage?
okay. I can always offer bigger packages if needed. PM me if you need one.
@jhadley - US. My VPSs are Colocrossing ones I guess in Chicago and Buffalo, and some in San Jose - BuyVM
I'm not much of a VPS-backup guy (I use Dropbox) but if you're just using it for storage, an application like ownCloud or AjaXplorer would work. http://ajaxplorer.info/features/

@ Fliphost - your 250GB plan looks good. Do you have suggestions about what software/panel to install if all you want is ftp backup?
you could try kloxo it's similar to cpanel, but unfortunately it only works with centos 5.8. some VPS provider already has this image/template it's called "host in a box"

@gubbyte - Thanks for the suggestions on software. I checked them out.
@MTUser2012: If you like to have a control panel on your backup VPS, you can install a free one. To install the Kloxo control panel on OpenVZ:
1) On VPS control panel, select the Centos 5 32 bit template.
2) using a terminal emulator (on Windows, you can use the Putty application), login as root on the VPS and type:
If you get an error, type:
and insert a # to comment out the following line: #exclude=kernel* , then save the file and retry the command.
now type:
and accept the installation.
now you need to type:
and check that selinux is disabled or not installed.
type:
and check that mysql is not installed
Now is time to download and install the control panel:
you must accept the license, then decline the installapp component. After a while, a password will be requested: simply press the enter key. At the end of the installation, follow the instructions to login to the web control panel. On the control panel, you need to select a new password.
Low-RAM backup VPS cannot use a control panel. You need to install the ftp server using the command line. I found that on OpenVZ, the Debian 6 32 bit template is usually best optimized. Select this template and login as root using putty, then type:
create a user (on this example, is called inbound):
Now edit the ftp configuration
Modify the following lines:
anonymous_enable=NO
local_enable=YES
write_enable=YES
local_root=/home
ftpd_banner=This is a private system. Unauthorized use is prohibited.
chroot_local_user=YES
Save the file then issue this command:
@earl - Thanks for the suggestion. I evaluated Kloxo when I was trying to figure out what to do after cPanel. I use Virtualmin now which I really like. But it doesn't look to me that it would be a good solution for a backup server.
@pcan - Thanks! I get it now. If all you want is backup, all you need is the ftp server part, no panel. Your instructions will help me set this up. I am going to buy something and try.
Just a note: if you get an error trying to write files to the ftp, check and correct the write permissions on the /home/inbound directory. If you use Windows, the free WinSCP application will give you a nice explorer-like graphical way to do that.
I have not tried it but it looks interesting called ProjectSend. If your on a new VPS maybe worth a try

demo
--update
I just gave it a try and it seems kinda buggy, too bad cause it would have been nice if it worked!!
We'll have some storage in < 2 weeks if you can hold on a bit
Francisco
@Francisco Is this stock in NY? If so, any chance of a current storage customer getting a location swap ahead of the release?
Newp, at least not yet.
New storage is going up in LAS. From there we'll decide if it's worth our time to setup any in NY.
Current customers will get first dibs on moving if/when that happens.
Francisco
@MTUser2012 Sorry for the delay, it appears I didn't get your mention. I would recommend as @pcan said of just using an FTP server.
@ Fransisco - As a current customer who is generally pleased with BuyVM service, I asked support first about adding a backup account. I'd found that all you had was sold out and asked if there was any idea when more would be available. I understood my answer to be, we have no idea, check the availability board. I would have waited if I knew I could get one. But I bought one after posting here based on the info I received.
Cloud Shards has RAID60 storage VPS here (in LA) http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/5942/storage-raid60-0.03gbmo-los-angeles-cloud-shards
The larger plans end up being <$0.03/GB for RAID60 storage and come with 4x the bandwidth per GB of storage.
@MTUser2012 Hit me up with a PM if you want a custom plan.
