Is it normal to not have your DO private network auto config on boot?

I've enabled private networking on a DigitalOcean droplet. It's there when I check /sys/class/net
as well as ip addr
but it isn't configured. I'm wondering if this is expected to just auto config on boot.
I do believe that I am running an instance from before private networking was a feature on DO.
If not, I'll just configure it myself.

I'd probably say it's auto configuration on boot maybe @jarland can clear that up.
Only automatic setup if selected at create time. This will help:
