Sometimes it's just to determine if the email address is valid for future spamming. I received an "offer" that sounds identical to yours, and I'm following through with it just to see where it goes. I use throw-away email addresses, so I can pretty easily track the outcome.
Hmm - I might send a mail and see what happens. I'll keep you posted. $5k would keep me in LEBs for a while...
