Hi All,
Just wondering if there is any really cheap yearly cost machines that have good bandwidth as a streaming server for 128kbps.
All the encoding will be done on another server this will more be the relay.
im not sure on the specs as but i don't imagine it being alot

I just found this... so i should be good on the most basic of servers LOL
If you want to broadcast to listeners, you'll need:
90Mhz or faster server, running one of Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, ME,
Mac OS X, Sparc Solaris 2.7+, FreeBSD 4.x+, or Linux with a libc6 kernel.
14kB of memory for every listener you want to broadcast to (i.e. 1,000
listeners means you need 14 Megabytes of RAM), plus whatever your
operating system needs for overhead, plus 1.5MB for the server's
base requirements. Don't set the listener count higher than you need,
it just screws things up.
Enough bandwidth to run the server. If you want to broadcast to 100
listeners at 24kbps, you'll need about 24kbps*100 = 2,400kbps = 2.4Mbps
of bandwidth. That's about 2 T1 lines worth of bandwidth. Trying to
push 100 128kbps listeners down your 768kbps cable modem isn't going
to work
CPU and RAM won't be an issue, it's network quality, transfer limits and Acceptable Use Policy/TOS. 2TB of monthly transfer will get you about 45 128kbps listeners. There are quite a few offers out there for $25/year or less that would work.
You can try our new OpenVZ Mini package for $3/year - wishosting.com
How are you pronouncing that? Wis-Hosting? Wish-Osting?
W-I-S-Hosting
The max bandwidth you'll use per listener per month will be 39.55GB at 128kbps.
Shoutcast is pretty lightweight, even if you were transcoding the stream you wouldn't be making much of dent on the CPU.
As long as you don't depend on the stream being broadcast on port 80 or 443, you could probably get away with getting a super cheap NAT ipv4 VPS.
PM me. I can offer a VM for free with a dedicated IP if Manchester, UK is okay for the location.
I think this guy is @GoodHosting
Explain?
Wis Hosting reminds me of @GoodHosting as the display picture is similar, and they both use open nebula.
Can i get one too?
XD
for real?
Know it, good package.
@GoodHosting's pic was of an albino gentleman, not really much like the other chaps.
The guy is on vacation
