Self-hosted dropbox
Anyone know any systems that work like Dropbox (ie. put a file in a folder, sync to a linux server, and then sync to any clients connected to it, both windows and linux)? I've done some searching and SparkleShare doesn't work with large files (> 1GB) and ownCloud didn't seem to sync a goddamn thing. FTPBox is windows only.

Try this: http://openbox.io/
Edit: sorry, Mac to Linux only.. not sure if that's what you want.
Nice find!
@EricCubixCloud that would work but I do need the windows support (I can do without a Linux client, just needs to be hosted on a Linux server)
-owncloud - has all the platforms you need-
sorry, didn't see the oc mention before. if owncloud doesn't sync then you're most probably having some issues with the setup.
I had no issues syncing with ownCloud.
+1 On OwnCloud.
Check out git-annex assistant: http://git-annex.branchable.com/assistant/. This is a Kickstarter project by Joey Hess - a core Debian developer.
@craigb doesn't git have a 100mb file limit?
@mpi @Nekki thanks, I tried it out on apache2 this time (even though I hate apache) and it seems to be working great! Now if only I set it up on a VPS with more than 10GB of hard drive space...
@winston from the man page of git-annex: "git-annex allows managing files with git, without checking the file contents into git. While that may seem paradoxical, it is useful when dealing with files larger than git can currently easily handle, whether due to limitations in memory, checksumming time, or disk space."
@winston I made the same mistake first time, had to get a 30gb to run from, seriously considering moving it to my KimSufi mKS now though.
I think owncloud is perfect for what you are looking for.
I thought Git isn't good with binary files.
@gubbyte Git doesn't store the file content...see above for info and links...
Sparklingclouds: http://sparkleshare.org/ or Owncloud (http://owncloud.org)
Right now im using OwnCloud and i still like it
+1 for OwnCloud
sparkleshare looks pretty cool!
Has anyone used OwnCloud on a Raspberry Pi or even a LEB (128MB RAM)?
Might be a bit tight, mine's running on a 256MB and using up 164MB solidly, although I've not done a huge amount of optimisation, and there are a couple of other bits running.
I suppoe tahoe lafs is a bad suggestion? (with a lot of VPSes)
openbox.io isgreat
Actually, in more recent versions of Tahoe-LAFS (1.9.x I believe), support for a 'drop folder' was added - anything you put into it or edit, will be reflected on the storage grid (or something along those lines). Haven't used it, but it exists.
Nice finds there @Raymii.
Any chance you are using Sparkleshare for your website?
Thanks, that's really good!
I tried OwnCloud but the most recent client keeps crashing on my Mac (known bug which they're apparently working on fixing). :-(
