Dedicated Server with Windows for Noob

tesseltessel Member
edited December 2015 in Requests

Any recommendations on a dedicated server something like an E3-1230 or higher with at least 16 Gig of RAM and Windows somewhere in North America. I see SYS offers them but I am the first to admit I am a complete noob and just want a dedicated server with Windows or something where I can login and get to work instead of screwing around.

You see the problem here? What do you plan to use that dedi for? Maybe you're better off with a smaller server, or a specialized provider.

No problem in my eyes :) I want a server running Windows 2008, much like a VPS running Windows but they lack the power I need. As for hardware specs, RAM has to be 16 Gig but I will happily take any comparable CPU. I could go the Kimsufi route but I don't want to mess around with the "hack" to get Windows installed, so I will happily pay extra for the license. However, if there apparently is a big problem then I guess I will have to try out Kimsufi.

It's easy, one simple command :) Copy and paste also.

In fairness, 2008 is still on extended support. But deploying a new 2008 instance is silly at this point.

  • Insert any version of Windows then, guys. But thanks for pointing it out.

We have some great deals on E3s w/16GB RAM in Seattle, and other deals priced a little higher in Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, and Buffalo. Windows 2008 is available. PM if you are interested.

    What's your budget?

  • Up to and around $100 USD a month depending on the hardware etc.

  • This is where you get 5+ people telling you to increase your budget.

I would suggest paying a member to set up a Windows box on Online. Or perhaps you can do it yourself with Proxmox on SyS or any other provider...

If you are happy to order the server from Online - and provide your own Windows key, I am happy to install Windows on it for you. I'll do it for £20

  • Check the offerings from Delimiter. If you have specific needs contact @MarkTurner

  • Just order it online from any datacenter providers.
