IRC, Skype or Pidgin for XMPP.
Seriously? Do you also say that about your parents/grandparents? Something that works and has proven itself over time is too old to mention?
IRC works just fine, just like XMPP (which facebook and google use last time I checked). Here in the hospital one dept. is software which communicates via XMPP to the servers (part of the patient dossier).
Still IRC and (very rare) MSN
I'd say my favorite is between Gtalk and MSN. I use IM+ on my phone and Pidgin or Trillian on my PC.
I'm still using my YahooMessenger, MSN, GTalk, Skype
Look at my signature :P A lot of people from LET/LEB are on IRC.
I highly prefer XMPP (Jabber, also GTalk is based on this), but also have to tolerate ICQ for work and some friends who are only there. ICQ is still very popular in Russia, although it is being replaced by skype and social networks' internal messaging -- and both are huge bags of fail, not any better than ICQ. I wish XMPP was used more, rather than those.
@rm_ can IRC be used as group chatting? sorry I never used it.
Yes. You can meet us in channel (or chat room) #lowendbox at irc.freenode.net
...never too old to be mentioned ;-)
Gtalk and Skype
email!
I don't know about IRc, how do we set our own Nick?
IRC.
/nick Erawan and then [ENTER] is the fastest way to set up/change nick
Some other basic commands undependable from IRC client:
/server irc.freenode.net [ENTER] (to connect to freenode IRC server/network)
/join #lowendbox [ENTER] (to join #lowendbox IRC channel)
/query Spirit [ENTER] (to open private chat session with individual person)
/msg Spirit What's up, bro? (to open private chat session with individual person)
@Erawan Check out /msg nickserv help register, and /nick.
@Wintereise that's IRC server dependable command, not basic IRC command Some biggest IRC networks don't even have nickservices. Lets help him first with IRC basics undependable from IRC client or network to atleast join and visit us and then all the rest ;-)
Hehe, it said I'm banned. Am I banned? or is it becaue the IP?
I don't think that you're personally banned. There's only few bans in banlist as I see but some of them ban whole subnet and maybe you use IP from such subnet.
Imo while on mobile
Skype and Facebook.
Whatsapp on mobile
Skype
IRC and Skype.
The Microsoft Network, after it I used Yahoo! on the work. Now Facebook chat is replacing my contact list. 6 online on MSN vs 20-30 on FC. :-(
To use the 3 I connect via Miranda IM.
Skype
Pidgin and Jitsi.
The local cafeteria.
ICQ with Pidgin.
Why no mail.ru agent here? I know a lot of people from the RU using this one.
Mail.ru Group owns ICQ and a big share of Facebook and Twitter. So technically they're already present on this list ;-)
But FaceBook is big enough to do it all themselves. A whole lot of smaller companies still use IRC. I think that was Liam's point.
Oh wow, a Jitsi user!
(on that note, Jitsi is pretty awesome, but I don't use it because Java.)
