What's happening with LEB?

So maybe only very few criteria that slightly limit the amount of offers, but greatly enhance the average offer quality? :>

Well, for arguments sake, let's just say we have this 'value' criteria defined in an understandable way that can be applied to any offer. Let's say, of a given crop of offers, maybe 5 meet this criteria and the rest are binned. If offer one is thoroughly checked for potential scam value and passes the test, happy days. But what if it doesn't? What if the first 4 don't? That's a lot of time expended for one offer. Bearing in mind that time is the scarcest resource when it comes to LET offer management, you can how that might get sticky quickly.

So you're happy with less offers, but you'd restrict the offers to a certain set of criteria that would require extra review time (meaning less offers still) around suppliers and some metric around value for money based on current market conditions?

While I only occasionally browse LEB I would agree less offers but higher quality offers would be fantastic.

While LEB doesn't dictate what we should spend our money on it certainly had an influence. I just feel after all this enabling of some certain hosts being allowed to screw over the community (GVHv1-4 and any other versions that are bound to come out and of course tdale and hostress and his past)

Do you not agree that by publishing offers from these hosts that you are somehow advocating their operation?

I personally believe that there can only be good coming from better quality posts and better quality providers even if it means fewer posts/offers.

  • 4n0nx said: But you probably agree that "$5.04/month 512MB and $6.57/month 1GB OpenVZ in France" resold from OVH does not exactly make sense when you can have this?: https://www.ovh.com/us/vps/vps-ssd.xml

Using that reasoning we could rule out any dedicated server provider that is also providing VPS as an upstream provider.

  • Some of you have too high expectations of a free service you're not expected to listen to.

We're not questioning if he's a good guy (I know he is indeed), but jcaleb is arguing that he will not question anything if an offer is marked as ok to write about. I don't think that's amazing when crap like this clearly breaking your own rules gets repeatedly published.

    Indeed @Nyr.

So, @mpkossen, you decided to keep that offer as a bad example? You don't follow your own rules?
You want the community to help, contributing with new offers, but we cannot contradict your word,.because yours, is always final?

LEB and LET is a business. Thanks to fucking you. That ruined LEB and LET. If you think yoi do a great job, you're wrong. I also doubt that "many work" LEB and LET gives you. You have people doing stuff for tou.

TBH I think @Jar and @AnthonySmith would do a much better job running this website. They could being the old spirit back. I'm not sure you know what I am talking about, do you? As long as you're paid, you don't seem yo care:

LEB/LET cluster is a shit. Often down.
LEB/LET didn't change in the past years. Still the same, no new features implemented. I understand you want to keep it original, but remember that, if you want to keep it original, then the spirit should also be the original, when this all started.
LET still has an ugly theme.
    LET mobile site sucks.
    No new plugins in LET.
    Shitty offers in LEB.

So, what the hell is your work? What are you doing for this community?

  • @William said:

Indeed. But @mpkossen is too proud to correct his mistake. Or perhaps, its too hard to login to WP and delete a post.

IMHO, if this host has that benefit, then all others can, too.

I know sometimes I'm a total asshole. But in the end, I am a very fair guy, always willing to help even when I'm blaming something, or someone. This just doesn't make sense at all.

  • Not to rile you up, but you announced yourself leaving LET a while ago. Don't make the admins help you.

I like LET and don't know what it was like before, but it can't be worse and that's good.

If anything I would post more shady offers and let you guys demolish them instead of more curated with less content. The old LEB meant new host = risky business. I think Maarten recognizes that but he's trying to balance between what made LEB what it is and what people like you want to see.

LEB and LET is a business. Thanks to fucking you.

Maarten in no way had a hand in that.

It seems like you're insinuating it's somehow our responsibility how other people spend their money. You make us sound more important than we are.

Excuse me but, when this all started, people used to care with each other. Isn't that the point of a community???

Freedom of speech. I indeed decided to leave LET, but I took a few days off instead. Made me refrain, made me more calm. It's been years since I signed up and it sometimes consume you. Now I see an injustice here, and I don't care about the number of Thanks. I am merely expressing my opinion.
Criticism shows willingness to change. I think it definitely need to, and I never denied to help.

  • I draw the line at making this about me rather than about LEB and LET.
