I can see why you can't login via SSH...
Well, I'm assuming there is a web console or something. If OP locked himself out of SSH and there isn't a web console, a ticket with the provider would have to be opened to save the disk contents.

The SoftLayer control panel does not allow to change root passwords. I had to contact them about it. Issues resolved.
