Setting up softether VPN
Hello all, loooong time since i been on here, just wanting a little advice.
So im going to up my geek cred and setup a VPN based on SoftEther (ive looked at OpenVPN.. meh)
Just wondering if what you people believe to be an acceptable server to run it on. It will be the only thing running on it and will probably have 10 devices connected at any one time most likely streaming netflix or uploading websites

you need a good strong CPU for higher encryption options, no crappy old L Series CPU's, E3 or E5 should be fine
what sort of ram do you think id be looking at? Just realised id forgot id be setting this up in a VPS
RAM is not much a problem for Softether. 256-512mb should be fine
so then the next inevitable question anyone you can recommend? will be looking for one in the UK (used as main) and one in US (mainly netflix streaming)
Personally for the US i use dacentec, for UK onepoundwebhosting and for other eu runabove
We've got a great network in New Jersey, which would be perfect for someone in the UK.
recommend 512 MB for use with softether, depends on what protocols you want to use, and how many concurrent connections there will be, but will work with 256 MB or less
boltvm in new jersey works well from europe, for uk you may want to look at arubacloud...
Softether work with 32-64mb ram without any issues
Got it running on a 64mb ram box, currently using 16mb ram, no users connected.
Is there any auto installer script for softether? I've installed it manually in the past but I think I forgot something .

Just don't use SecureNAT, install dnsmasq and be done with it. SecureNAT is a resource hog.
How much of a difference are you talking about?
Like when there's a few users SecureNAT using 90% of the CPU whereas on the same system with dnsmasq you don't even check your htop kinda difference.
there will be like 10 devices connected at once but not always streaming. like my phone just in my pocket etc
Softether works fine on a Raspberry pi, it should run easily with 128mb of ram.
I like the different protocols softether support and it's really easy to manage.
then you have not much a choice, use E3 or E5
