Any servdiscount.com user here? Please Help!

JokerJoker Member

I have seen some really good dedicated deals there but their site is not really helpful in understanding some things i have a couple of questions that i want to be answered before getting a dedicated server from them. Is there any servdiscount.com user here who would like to answer a couple of questions?

  1. With some server packages i see +Remote option on their site and some packages don't have it what does it means? Is it for Remote Management to install different os/reboot/shutdown etc through a web panel? What if i pick a package without Remote option how i am going to perform the reboot/shutdown/reinstall actions or i will have to contact support each time?

  2. How good is their ddos mitigation that they are advertising on the site as a built in option for all server.

  3. Can i buy additional hdd, ip or ram anytime without any problem?

  4. How good is the support i had a terrible experience with kimsufi they use too reply me back after 48 hours even in working days.

Seperate IPMI/KVM over IP you need to request after getting server. All servers have the standard reboot/control options.

    Like 1Gbps, not the best.

    No, new server only!

Quick in 9-5 German time, slower on the weekend.

P.S you can install unlicensed Windows!

There DDOS is weak, sometimes they still null small attacks.

Thanks for the replies guys and @MuZo really thanks for posting the screenshots so this panel comes free of charge with all servers? I cans see almost all basic server actions available in it but what are the charges for a seperate IPMI/KVM? And in this panel i see a button which says order 48H KVM what does it means?

I think for ddos filter i can get a small ddos protected vps and forward all the traffic through it.

Is there someone who can confirm that techically is it possible to forward all type traffic http https ftp etc through all ports? I mean forwarding almost everything all type packets so it gets filtered through that ddos protected vps before reaching the dedicated server.

@MuZo what is this connection upgrades button for? i think they are already giving un metered 1gbps?

KVM over IP is to see booting etc, servers with +remove either have IPMI or KVM over IP for this but it's included for free.

    Get a BuyVM and http://wiki.buyvm.net/doku.php/gre_tunnel

Don't touch it unless you want to downgrade to 100Mbps, but you have to pay to upgrade back to 1Gbps.

    Setup a GRE tunnel ? http://wiki.buyvm.net/doku.php/gre_tunnel

@linuxthefish thanks for the replies sorry in last post i mistakenly mentioned another poster name instead of your to thank! So IPMI/KVM only come with those servers where it's mentioned as option not with all. This was confusing me on their packages details page. I think forwarding will be a better option to filter everything so i guess through tunnel i can filter almost everything technically.

Through GRE tunnel that i can forward every type traffic/packets right? i don't want to forard only http traffic

GRE tunnels allow all traffic through, not just HTTP. With a GRE tunnel you can serve, and deliver any type of content from any type of server (audio, FTP, SSH, SCP, video, etc.).

@linuxthefish posted the screenshots, thank him :)

I had a server by webtropia (another brand of myloc which runs servdiscount) and the panel is basically the same. Support is good: one time I was late for a payment which was already overdue, I told them and they gave me 2 more weeks time.

Yes that was a username mistake i already corrected it. Just saw webtropia their packages are cool which server you have? do they provide ddos protection? I see the Hardware-Raid mentioned as optional with their packages does that mean we need to pay extra for it?

I think for their €49.99 server there is no KVM and can't upgrade ram?

They sent me a letter in German when I did this by accident!

I paid it so nothing, I think they just terminate it after that.

I have quite an old one (bought 2-3 years ago) which isn't anymore displayed on their website.

Depends from the billing length in the contract, mine is every 2 years with monthly payment so I can't just stop paying. Paying it monthly with a monthly contract was more expensive.
