Has anyone gotten an antivirus client to run on a 128MB (or smaller) VPS?

If so, which one? ClamAV seems to use ~200MB just to scan one file (tested on a 512MB VPS), and I can't get it to run at all on my 128MB box (I can get freshclam to run, but with clamscan it just says Killed)

I only need to scan one file at a time

    I don't know of any other linux virus scanners besides clamav. You might be better off running a GUI and using a web-based virus scanner like https://www.virustotal.com/

    Probably also sucks RAM. I've never tried it, been meaning to.

    Not a big fan of Sophos, it's resulted in too many OS re-installs for me at work but that's because our workstations are locked down and Sophos has the final say as to whether the OS is allowed to boot or not.

    I believe most virus scanners load the virus databases into RAM so the scanning is faster, even though I just checked the ClamAV databases and they are both only 96.9MB so I could be wrong since @hostnood is reporting 200MB RAM usage.

    Probably compressed versions. You're correct on this.

    Majority uses this method to achieve faster scan rate.

    Why not use an online Virus Scanner? https://virustotal.com/ for example? Will use more than one AV and don't have to pay.
    Also has an API.

    I need to scan the file on the VPS unfortunately. I think I'll just upgrade to 256MB for a bit

    @hostnoob, I use that site + API for all my email scanning, have not had an issue.
    Had to set a max of 4 scans a min though due to the API limit.
