APARTMENT / ROOMMATE HUNTING
Hi folks,
Besides Craigslist.org or Airbnb, I was wondering if there are any great resources in the search for the right apartment or group of roommates. I live in a popular American city and the going rate is at least $2300 for a tiny apartment or at least $700 for a private room living with multiple roommates in a bad neighborhood. I fear that if I don't find any suitable place the prices might go up next year. I am a middle age man with a modest income, some savings, and very good credit ratings. All my bills/rent have never been late or skipped. Currently living at home in the same expensive city.

No, no, no!! many bad reviews. There were many

Don't forget that most people here live at Mama's Grand Hotel and have no idea about real life problems.

Be careful on Craigslist, I found a roommate on Craigslist who stole from me.
Check your local campus for housing offers (even if you're not a student).
Find bulletin boards in your community.

trulia.com is a good source. When I am looking for a rental I use that along with craigslist and the sites that list all registered crimes in an area such as raidsonline.com

Big cities have many advantages and opportunities, but it costs a lot. Have you considered moving to a smaller place? A year's rent in the big city is half the price of a house in a smaller town. I understand why you wouldn't, but just sayin'.
Here's my little compound in the sticks: http://history.coalmont.net/12a.jpg It was dirt cheap, and the property tax for an old age pensioner is less than dinner for two in a fancy City restaurant. (I miss the city though.)
Sounds like you need to move out of the very expensive city or get a higher income if you want to live how you are accustomed too.

I live in San Francisco if that helps. I make under $30,000 a year but I have savings so I can rent an apartment if need be.
It's not the price but the method of finding a place to live that I'm seeking. In a couple of years, the minimum wage will be $15 per hour. By then, the rent will be insane.
