Good uses for low end boxes?
Hey everyone!
I'm wondering, what are some little known/good uses for LEBs?
I have a spare 256MB server I'm using for a VPN, but I want to put it to a better use. I already have a shared hosting account for my sites, so I don't need to host anything (I prefer the shared hosting because it was extremely cheap, but I'll most likely move my sites to a VPS in a year or so when it's time to renew it).
So, other than VPN/hosting, what else can I do with a LEB? I guess I can store files, but I have a different VPS I'm using for storage, as this one only has a pitiful 5GB of storage. I have a ridiculous amount of bandwidth (10TB!) on a "1gbps" line, but it's closer to 100mbps in speed. Network quality is fine, and it's a Xen VPS.
My other 2 LEBs have uses assigned, but this one has nothing interesting to do.
Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe use it as a public free VPN? I'm not quite sure...

It's a two-sided issue. You could argue in favour of the post being redundant, since the poster could just search to find a very similar thread.
On the other hand, you could also say that "times change", and the poster is hoping for more up-to-date information than simply digging through archives.

Flame me if you want, but I did search beforehand and I'm looking for some fresh ideas, I already read those threads. And half those threads you posted aren't relevant, I'm not looking for info on VPNs/webhosting.
I use some of my spare LEBs as free-hosting for local students
I use some (5 lebs) as a DNS cluster (still in beta; may be launched in a month or so for everyone)
I run an IRC bouncer, rsnapshot backups, deluge, rtorrent, subsonic, a file mirror, etc
@JTR It's usually a plus to always list what steps you've taken when asking for help on a support forum. That way those trying to help you don't waste their time covering what you;ve already done.
VPN, owncloud, encoder (with cpulimit), file mirror, VNC/RDP, compile scripts... etc

I've recommended them for backup/failover boxes, offsite development, low-end virtual computing (especially if you're in the field and compile moderately), or just a box to learn UNIX. The possibilities are pretty endless.
Well it can host a pretty big site if you are with a serious provider & the website is well optimized.
Can be good for reverse proxy, email server, VPN, email server, irssi screen, rtorrent seedbox...
