Network speed

Hey guys,

Is this result normal for a dedi server with 1gbps port on LA (shared most probably).

Download speed from CacheFly: 4.53MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 1.28MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 4.03MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 3.18MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 3.27MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 2.82MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 2.79MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 4.24MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 4.50MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 3.85MB/s

I'm always confused on the bandwidth area so I just needed a little verification.

I read some posts here and this is probably average (although poor results) for shared 1gbps. Any input is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

That's pretty awful if they're advertising 1Gbps port. Seems more like 50Mbps

    What provider?

Doesn't look 1gb unless the network is congested.

Looks like 100mbit/s shared to me (1MB = 8 mbit)

Or maybe it is just temporary..

  • AnthonySmithAnthonySmith Member, Host Rep

Maybe you have not installed VirtIO network drivers if KVM or you are on the realtek 8169 100mbit driver for Xen, maybe it is a gbit port and each VPS is restricted to 100mbit for QoS?

Other people running speed tests is pretty pointless there are so many variables and not enough information.

    How about XEN HVM ??

any setting must change in user end like KVM ??

    Is this better?

    Download speed from CacheFly: 45.4MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 6.17MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 20.3MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 9.97MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 7.67MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 9.18MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 5.96MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 24.6MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 31.8MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 15.6MB/s

Provider turned on/off port to refresh switch settings as they can't seem to find where the issue is. But it seemed to work somehow.

Even my server in France has better speeds to US than your server in US.
    Isn't that weird? (:
