Looking for cheap Storage KVM VPS

Hello.

Backupsy lost my VPS along with all the data. Again.
Price-wise it was a great deal three years ago when I signed up, but I don't think its worth it anymore.

Looking for a replacement of the service I've had:

VZ Type: KVM
CPU: don't care, looks like anything is enough nowadays for running encryption
RAM: 256MB+
HDD: I've had 250Gb, but I feel like it's time for an upgrade
Bandwidth: I had 1TB of which I don't think I've ever used much, so 1TB+
Port Speed: don't care
DDOS protection: No
Location: very strong preference of the US (already have a mirror in Europe)
Billing period: I'm okay with yearly as long as the price is good and business is more than one year old

I need a console to be able to enter dm-crypt password at boot and setup Debian Stable with encrypted root.

Usage: storing my backups, webdav for sharing files with friends, running my VPN. Pretty much idle load.
Me: advanced user, who knows how to set up firewall, key auth, cerberous rules for fail2ban and Mandatory Access Control for network-exposed processes. I won't be your hassle.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

What are your price on the 500GB?

I should've mentioned that I was on 5$/month plan with Backupsy and trying to assess, what I can get for that nowadays.

  • @aidaho We can do 250GB for $5/month and 500GB for $10/month. These include 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM respectively and both include 2 CPU cores.

There are some discounts you can grab such as 5% off for transferring hosts and 5% off if paying annually.

  • MNX and LetBox both offer KVM VPS with 500GB storage and 1GB RAM onboard for $7/m in US.

    Thanked by 2Waldo19 letbox
  • Found these two offers in the recent threads:

    SpeedyKVM: https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1969878/#Comment_1969878

    tragicservers: https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/1946205/#Comment_1946205

Never heard about any of those providers though.
Are there any known pitfalls with these options?

  • I use LetBox myself, got the 200GB storage for $3/month with the promo code. Very reliable and good bandwidth.

Missed this on the first glance, but LetBox does in fact fit in the budget of $5/m if I'm paying for quarter.
    So three viable options now.

I'm surprised LetBox and SpeedyKVM both offer 1GB of RAM for storage vps. Sort of overkill for this kind of job, no?

  • LetBox offer is sold out and SpeedyKVM support got back to me stating I indeed can mount an iso image for custom install.

That makes SpeedyKVM a clear winner with $4/m, so I've just ordered from them.

When I tried your link to 500 option, it said something along the lines of "Sold out / out of stock".
I checked just now, and it's available again.
