cpanel ssl?

Hi guys,

Sorry if asking stupid questions, but you have been always helpful to me in the past...

I am running a cPanel VPS which host some of mine domains, I have static IP on it.... I have a SSL cert in the main domain name, but now I want to have SSL cert on one of my other domains, when i try to add it, cpanel is saying that I need a dedicated IP attached to it.... since I don't have any other IP addresses attached to this VPS... i was wondering why it doesn't work

If somebody can assist will be much appreciated

the error that I get is:

SSL install aborted due to error: Sorry, you must have a dedicated ip to use this feature for the user: xxxxxx! If you are intending to install a shared certificate you must use the username "nobody" for security and bandwidth reporting reasons.

Each SSL certificate needs its own dedicated IP address to work. Ask your host for another IP.

  • Lets say, I am my own host ;) does it mean that I need to attach another IP to the VPS.... and there is no other way to use the main cPanel ip ... for more than 1 host at the same time?

set a dedicated ip to that domain, not the main shared

    another alone ip.

or if you want to use the main shared, then install the SSL with user nobody.

  • If your other sites have low volume traffic, you could set up an ssl for the host name of your cpanel server (use nobody user when installing ssl) and then share that SSL. Once the SSL is shared, the other domains ssl address will be https://host-name.domain.com/~cpaneluser

As others have said, you will need to add & attach a dedicated ip to the server, then install the SSL for the specific domain if you want to have https://mysecuredomain2.com.

  • I remember running "nobody" as the SSL should work or something like that.

Also, I remember that Globalsign SSL has a special feature for SSLs using one IP.
    Should be this: http://bit.ly/Z1fNMM

Globalsign is also the first SSL provider to support IPv6.

Ok... when install the certificate with user: nobody.... i got the following

500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    :)

otherwise the browser shows the certificate and it looks like working... but not loading the site from the public_html

  • You need to do some changes via the shell as per my prev link in order for this to work.

  • If you are using WHM to create new account, just select dedicated IP option. It will assign dedicated/static IP for that particular domain. You can create package and select dedicated IP option there. You can use that package for accounts that you need to have static ip.
