Review: Prometeus

edited April 2013 in Reviews

Summary:

------------ Host prometeus.net is good out of the box

No need for support, it just works.

Key Points of Host:

  • Pre-sales was informative and knowledgeable
  • Pre-sales was quick to reply and friendly
  • Service was stable (good up time)
  • Low ping time
  • Zero packet loss
  • Little to no downtime

My expectations:

  • Reasonable server load (not perfect, but reasonable)
  • Easy access to control panel (and / or SSH)
  • Quick and friendly customer service
  • Customer service which will resolve issues (or at least make a valid attempt & not brush me off with a "script" response)
  • An agreeable Terms of Service for possible mild adult content (limited, not porn)
  • An acceptable budget

My current resources:

  • 3 Database (MySQL)
  • Space currently using: -- 5 GB
  • Current monthly bandwidth: -- 13 GB

Full Commentary Review:

I've been using Prometeus now for over 7 months (originally October 2012) and the only contact I've ever thought I needed to make was with their pre-sales. Everything after that has been smooth and stable.

Pingdom.com shows them as the only host which I've monitored hat has 100% up time (last 3 month).

BIZ XEN9 plan offered me everything I wanted. Would recommend. :)

I think my summary about covers most of everything, but I'll be willing to answer questions upon request

    Thanks for taking the time to post all these reviews here. I wish I'd sit down and do the same thing.

    Never.

    I have a few more to do, but I think I'll wait a while.

    As a golden rule, I don't put all my eggs in one basket (which means I use more than one host).

    You're welcome :)

    I like to be as informative as possible. Which means I don't like missing anyone when I do reviews and so I normally post them all at once (when possible)

    I don't think so either, but it can be troublesome with some people.

    Yep, you know despite the first one turning awkward I really appreciate the effort people make when they do reviews, obviously well formatted, not to much in terms of bench marks but they are more 'customer experience' reviews which is great as the problem with being a good host is you hardly ever get a mention until something goes wrong.

    Keep up the good work, maybe do some guest reviews for @96mb :D

    I like to keep my reviews simple enough that even a "noob" could understand them. You show benchmarks and not everyone gets them.

    I stick to the basic.....

    • Is pre-sales helpful and honest?
    • Is support needed and if so, are they helpful & how quick are things resolved?
    • Does it work as expected?
    • Is it fast?
    • Is it secure?
    • Is it stable?
    • Can other people reach it easily?
    • Is it affordable and is the billing correct?

    Real simple. It's not hard to get a good review if you're a good host.

  • Yep, auto correct .... Successfully owning my productivity. :-P

    Thank you.

    Thank you for the review :)
    I hope more people will try our Xen/KVM packages, we are yet to have any failure there, same with VMWare, rhev6.
    No matter what others think, we offer all kinds of packages, from simple FTP storage space to fully HA cloud (only for the enterprise so far, not yet for the masses).
    This includes:
    -shared hosting with cPanel and DirectAdmin;
    -OVZ from 50 to 8192 MB RAM both SSD and SAS2;
    -Xen from 128 to 8192 MB RAM and big storage too as well as the SSD variant;
    -KVM from 128 to 4096;
    -Customizable plans with the above virtualization methods (DIY plans);
    -Storage plans from local and offsite FTP to fully blown KVM on SAN storage, going through very cheap Xen IPv6 only;
    -MySQL offload;
    -Custom dedicated servers;
    -Colocation;
    -High end services for big Italian corporations.

    The only thing that is not there and we keep trying to find a low cost formula for the masses is the full HA cloud (not jokes like others give, only the interface and not the back-end). This is hard to do, I mean keeping it low cost, we cant charge thousands a month like we do for corporate customers with VMWare and rhev6, but I am confident something will emerge in the end.

    Therefore, I wish ppl will stop bashing us for giving what the market wants, we have the full offer on table (granted, some items are out of stock, but only few will probably never return), it just happens that Joe Public wants mostly OVZ and we strive to give good quality there too, even if we would prefer trouble-free Xen/KVM nodes over the problematic OVZ.

    This being said, thank you OP, as well as the whole community for your trust and appreciation !

    Yeah, this newb slowly become annoying. Mass planting individual reviews about every host he and all the rest of us discuss at LEB/LET on daily basis without need to open new and new threads have no sense...
