What is it going to be used for?
Depends on what your using them for.
This is like asking wether you should buy a ferrari or a big ass 10-wheeler for approx the same amount of money. If your goal is to transit tons of cargo, go for the cargo truck. If you want to get somewhere fast, get a ferrari.
E5
i7
i7 6700k is better on single-threaded applications and has a faster memory. Best choice for interactive applications (remote desktop) and small databases.
2x e5-2650v2 is usually matched to a better/more stable server motherboard, does have more execution units, supports more RAM and has a better multithreaded performance. Good for high density web/vps hosting and large databases.
well explained. the i7 has better single thread performance and the E5 has lower single thread performance but more threads.
the 4790k is still the best single threaded CPU around. so i would go for i7 (the 4790k offers nearly twice the single core performance of the E5)
the 6700k never tried but am guessing it will be slightly similiar.
i think best i7 is - 5960X 8 cores 16 theards but its expensive
I will be using it for creating vps instances, I am currently using E5 one server and cpu maxes out to 98%. Main concern is cpu speed, rest can be compromised
i7's if no ECC req.
2 x e5 2650 v2 combined performs better than 2x i7 6700k combined
if is for porn, i can suggest you to get a nice video card and a home theatre to enjoy.
Erm, nope. That's what PassMark says but frankly, that's just impossible, frequency wise they are almost the same (the 4790K has 5% higher turbo), one is Haswell the other Skylake. For example, http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4790K/3502vs2384 shows a much more realistic 6% improvement in favor of Core-i7-6700K.
i couldnt care less what passmark says or userbench. i go from geekbench and the 4790k outperforms almost everything at stock.
