Quassel or Smuxi or Something else
Hi,
I'm considering to use Quassel[1] or Smuxi[2]. It seems will fit my need that often changing machine and can't online all the time.
From it's look, Quassel seems better than smuxi.
Any comment?

Ooh ooh i was first to say irssi or weechat plus screen
Thanks for the suggestion.
So, i login to my LEB, then start screen/tmux, then use irssi?
My closest LEB has 200ms ping time, it will be a pain to do that.
Other machines has < 80ms ping time, but it is not a kind of machine for playing.
Wouldn't you have the same latency issue with Quassel/smuxi then?
No, There are 2 parts in quassel:
So, we only interract with quassel client in our own machine. Latency will be same as using ordinary IRC client on our machine.
@kampung - Ahh ok so Quassel would be much better then in your situation where latency to the remote machine is an issue.. so the core is essentially the part that is making the connection to the irc server(s) then I would assume.
Yes.
You can find more info about this here http://www.quassel-irc.org/about
Wouldn't ZNC work for you?

Yeah I've actually used it before.. never really dug it that much over screen+irssi/weechat, and I've never had any latency issues so that's always worked without issue for me.
However, what about just opening up a port to your home network, and run a cheap little desktop or VM, and use that for screen+irssi, then ssh to that? Shouldn't latency be OK then since you should usually be fairly close in proximity to your home/ISP network?
znc + irssi ftw
Err, I don't see how that solves your latency problem. The collective latency will stay the exact same.
My recommendation is irssi-proxy + irssi.
Or ZNC + Whatever IRC client tinkles your fantasies.
Hi, I don't have latency problem to be solve.
I know nothing about ZNC, will check it. Thanks
Thanks about irssi-proxy, will check it.
Yeah either of those solutions will fit you.
I know personally a ton of people on IRC just use ZNC (as do I).
ZNC is easier, you can choose whatever client you want with it.
Quassel is very nice. I use a quassel core on my server. The quassel core connects to the irc networks and stays connected all the time while I connect to the quassel core. This is good if you're like me (using multiple pcs) as when you open it on another machine it is like you never closed the client.
@Syed ZNC is nice but it's not as sexy as quassel
If a host said 'IRC is not allowed'. Is it mean ZNC is not allowed?
Can you share the reason?
ZNC + irssi? but why? fucking screen it and be done with it, lol.
Here, let me Google that for you..

Some results:

My suggestions:
znc, psybnc
Cheers!

Wrong lmgtfy.com url!
I will give you right URL http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Quassel+or+Smuxi+or+Something+else
Um, I guess if you really cared about those two apps, but as they are both irc bouncers, I think mine was just as applicable (if not more so based on the fact you started the topic to begin with instead of googling it your self). The subject should have been: "What irc bouncer do you suggest/use?" Would have been much more appropriate considering the responses.
Cheers!
I use znc + hydrairc, used psybnc before but znc is easier to setup and when i change vps often its really good to have something fast to install like znc.
Hi,
I started this topic after found this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quassel_IRC.
Quassel is IRC bouncer is new info for me, since there is no 'bouncer' word on that page.
IRC bouncer also a new word for me. Please don't assume that every IRC user already know about IRC bouncer.
I occasionally use IRC in the past, never play seriously with it.
Recently i need to use IRC everyday because of my work need it.
Just installed quassel, very easy, almost need no config.
Seems good for me. Better and easier than limechat, xchat, mirc, and pidgin.
irssi seems difficult, need to learn many of it's command.
I use ZNC on one of my VPSes to provide bouncers to myself and some of my friends. I'm also going to be working on setting up a system to provide bouncers to Users of my IRC network. I use HexChat as my preferred client, with Colloquy Mobile for my iPhone.
