Need a cheap-ish VM with unmetered/high bandwidth and DDoS protection
Hello,
I'm looking for a somewhat cheap VPS with unmetered or high bandwidth and DDoS protection for reverse proxying to my higher-risk sites (and no, I'm not using CloudFlare, their SSL sucks). Let's get to the specs I need:
- 128MB+ RAM
- Tiny bit of disk (like 5GB)
- Decent CPU, it's not like Nginx uses that much, so 1-2 shared vCPU cores
- 1.5TB to Unmetered bandwidth
- 1 IPv4 address, a subnet of IPv6 addresses preferred, but not needed
- Decent DDoS protection (but optimally OVH :P)
- OpenVZ / Xen PV preferred
- Under $1.50/month (but am willing to pay quarterly or semi-annually, providing there is a discount for doing so)
- Minimum specs are open to slight changes (e.g 2TB BW in exchange for 2GB disk or something like that)

On a more serious note, why not just get some OVH VPS's at $4/month its well within LET pricing.

OVH's VPSes are good, but I really don't need 2GB of RAM for Nginx.
what service you need to protect? game, website, voip?

Aside from OVH or some big budget network amortising the cost with hardware / larger clients... I don't think anyone will touch that for that price.
Even without mitigation, an IPv4, 4Mbps average, hardware and power for $1.50 (minus transaction fees)?
Best bet, look for some kid/summer host providing VPSs on Kimsufi.
Eh, I could possibly do something similar to what he needs but only in Montreal for now.

I highly recommend ExtraVM, I have a DDoS mitigated reverse proxy there and it's been running great.

@karatekidmonkey if you are ready to pay 6 months advance, Obambu's cheapest unmetered OVH OVZ box is about $6, it comes with 512MB RAM, 10GB disk and IPv4/IPv6 support.
