So I just noticed they've added ARM packages to their order page

https://eu.soyoustart.com/ie/cgi-bin/newOrder/order.cgi

Although they are shown as out of stock, I think we can expect them in stock soon.

ARM-2T looks appealing to me for its 2TB drive and its price of 12 euros.

The specs in case they remove it

Dedicated server ARM-2T

Processor Cortex A9
Hard disk 2000 GB SATA
Memory 2 GB DDR3
Bandwidth 250 Mbps
€12.00 /month

Dedicated server ARM-4T

Processor Cortex A9
Hard disk 4000 GB SATA
Memory 2 GB DDR3
Bandwidth 250 Mbps
€20.00 /month

Dedicated server ARM-8T

Processor Cortex A9
Hard disk 8000 GB SATA
Memory 2 GB DDR3
Bandwidth 250 Mbps
€26.00 /month

Yo hold the fucking presses, I need this.

12€ for 2 TB sounds great, I wonder how the CPU measures up compared to the Dedibox SC I currently have.

  • sinsin Member

I would certainly pickup one of those €12.00 servers.

Ill be clustering a few of those me thinks.

Prices are on the higher side, the cheapest one should have been 10 EUR at most; the middle one should be cheaper also, to space it apart further from the top one (currently 2x space for only 6 EUR more). "10 - 18 - 25 EUR" would make more sense.

Also this doesn't say which CPU and how many cores.

  • looks like the offer from here. sata2ip.

  • It's 2.5Gbps of bandwidth?

probably just ovh->ovh so you can use it almost like an internal hdd. but guaranteed bw is 250mbit ovh->internet

Or RAID 1 if you swing that way.

    Good deal regardless.

    Now advertised here: http://www.soyoustart.com/fr/serveurs-stockage/

So 2x 1GHz Cortex-A9, likely the Marvell Armada 375 mentioned in Twitter.

Interestingly, the specs states that the SoC only supports Gigabit, so unsure what the 2.5Gbps claim refers to.
Am also unsure what "Soft RAID" is referring to as there's only 1 disk (maybe just a mistake).

So amongst the OVH cheap storage servers we have dual core ARM with 2GB RAM vs dual core Atom N2800 with 4-8GB RAM: (I've also included some Online.net offers which may be of interest)

    1TB:
    Atom, 4GB RAM, 1x disk: €10/m + €10 setup (KS-2A)
    Atom C2350, 4GB RAM, 1x disk: €9/m + €20 setup (Online.net)

    2TB:
    ARM: €12/m
    Atom, 4GB RAM, 1x disk: €15/m + €10 setup (KS-2E)

    4TB:
    ARM: €20/m
    Atom, 4GB RAM, 2x disks: €25/m

    8TB:
    ARM: €26/m
    Atom, 8GB RAM, 2x disks: €40/m
    Xeon E3 1220, 32GB RAM, 2x disks, €40/m + €60 setup (Online.net)

(Kimsufi servers don't have the SyS benefits of 250Mbps, 16x IPs etc)

Atom N2800 server should generally be better as CPU is much more powerful, has 2-4x RAM, and sometimes a 2nd disk, but slightly more expensive. 8TB Atom server is particularly bad value, IMO, as it is much more expensive than the ARM and other providers may have better deals.

  • So the 2TB ARM thing is now up for order, 10 day delivery time advertised though.

    https://www.online.net/en/dedicated-server/dedibox-st8 is a better deal.

    Shit.

Did the softraid and 8TB options get removed from the offer? I don't see where you can get 16TB for 52EUR.

  • boerndboernd Member

8TB was replaced with 6TB unfortunately

  • Only the 2TB one which has been available for order for two days now, with 10 day delivery time. Waiting for the 6TB(former 8TB) one to be available.

Yeah this sucks, but still a good price.

  • That ARM servers is good for seedbox?

Is it me or does the new customer form lack 'United States" as an option, it seems to include EVERYTHING else but you can't select US. Is this normal for them? Had considered ordering one to test with, but I can't seem to sign-up as US isn't an option on the new customer form. Is there a way around that?

    Cheers!

  • Nah, network is slow and syslog full of errors from eth0. Lots of packages missing... IMHO not worth it. Limited to 1 IP address as well. Maybe OK for backups, if you don't mind the single disk.
