Odd RAID Array types

Does anyone here use any "odd" raid configs, eg. RAID 100, RAID 1010, RAID105 etc.

I understand that some (eg. RAID 1010) are not practical, however it's interesting to see if anyone here uses a RAID array type other than the 'standard' 1-60

I've played with SW RAID 0+3.. but never really used the machine for anything. (6x40GB drives in an old server)

I wouldn't see the need to be using a non-standard RAID level, normal ones suit most needs fine.

  • was using 1E raid configuration

  • Isn't RAID 100 two RAID 10s put together into 1? (8 disks total)

  • That would be 101

  • So 4 RAID 10s would be RAID 1011?

  • Two RAID 10s in RAID 1 is RAID 101, TWo RAID10s in RAID 0 is RAID 100, and 4 RAID10s in RAID 10 would be RAID1010101010

  • Might as well call it raid level DR SEUSS

We run Raid-50 on some large storage nodes. Not that exotic but it's not that common either.
