hi guys,

few Months ago I got noticed that some people provide AS registration for $50 (Ripe I think)

Did any one still offer this ?

By the way : can I announce the ASN in USA ? or just EUROPE ?

    What happens if I want an ASN for Mars?

    Since Mars does not currently peer with Earth, you can just use any ASN you wish

    Unfortunately inter planet peering is not possible yet. But not impossible.

    We can set some satellites up... voila! 1 Mbps down/up peering with Mars. There's going to be a lot of congestion on the link though :(

  • yes it is, probes are using radio wave to transmit messages, so mobile like connectivity is possible. :D

    For the ASN, you can use it anywhere in this world. Usage area restrictions depends on your IP ranges.

    So, for example, RIPE ASN + ARIN IP, do BGP in USA, this is okay as far as the announced IPs are ARIN IPs.

    @rmlhhd offers RIPE ASN for one-time €50.

    Maybe it's a good start to learn about networking / BGP before grabbing your ASN. Having your own ASN is just the beginning - you'll need hardware, transit/peering and technical skills to get your ASN up and running ;-)

    Location wise it doesn't really matter where your ASN is running. Plenty of companies that have one ASN up and running in different continents. If you have a company in EU for example, you'll sign up for a ASN at RIPE. Are you Asia based, you'll be looking at APNIC.

    You don't need hardware, there is Quagga, and you can use he.net / netassist as upstream by tunnel :-)

    Btw, I can offer ASNs too.
