How to auto backup database to FTP?

Is there a script for ubuntu that can backup mysql database and auto upload to ftp and delete old databases on the ftp server??

Should be an easy task.

And combine it with something like this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11203988/linux-shell-script-for-delete-old-files-from-ftp

If this doesn't fit your needs: Google should guide you very quickly to an result I think or just write your own.

You read that wrong. What I think it tries to tell you, is that if you are willing to backup OpenVZ containers on the host server, you would need the corresponding tools installed.

You could also do a

mysqldump -u user -ppassword --all-databases > outputfile.sql

and then backup that file.

Create a first cron with the given command.

Check how long it takes to be done.

Create a second cron and set it to be executed a couple of hours after the first cron is finished.
