Sure, is it just porn images? or do you have a website for the front end?

no porn or illegal. url paths will be given to client who request data via api.

Can be done for $5-10/month for 1GB RAM and ~2Ghz CPU on a 2TB BW 100Mbit server

  • @time4vps's storage servers sound pretty good for the purpose.

(pretty sure people posted disk speed tests for these here before)

If you don't mind, you could upload everything onto Flickr (a private album), then copy the URL of the image and use it.

Free that way, but you have to adhere to the rules they have regarding this:

You cannot use Flickr to host pictures for an external website unless you link each image used back to its Flickr photopage.

The link back is required by Flickr rules. Take a look at the Community Guidelines (linked at the bottom of every page).

We do not recommend to use our storage instances as a CDN network, especially when there is many requests for images. Eventually you will hit IOPS limit and face performance problems.

You should be considering object storage

This. At that volume, if all I was going to be doing was serve images, I know I would. A good dedi would probably be cheaper than good object storage though.

    What limit?

  • Just use ObjSpace, you can upload the images and we'll serve the images straight from the object store.

They lack a lot of things when it comes to object storage. There is no dashboard for stats, bandwidth limit . But for production use i would not use them.

Soon™ I got a demo of the new module in development, will have the ones you listed - plus some others that would be expected in an S3 storage system (e.g. regen/revoke/add keys).
